From what I've heard, mental illness is kind of ignored, like many things. They believe that if you ignore it, it doesn't exist. Well, it does. Look at the people who have gone on a rampage and stabbed children and the like. Actually, something like that happened recently to a student at the college where I work. Apparently some mentally ill man broke into her home and stabbed her to death. They didn't know him. I don't know any more about it, but to me, that says there is something seriously wrong, and no one is taking care of it.

@Jnusb416 . that is not the case everywhere, being a person in medical profession I have had the opportunity to visit many psychiatric wards and big hospitals as part of acquainting with the different medical cases here. I must say I was quite impressed, they have a well balanced staff and infrastructure for the mentally ill and disabled. Eventhough there are roomsof higher rates for people who can afford it and those where 4-10 people share a room, they have a fixed time for meals, an open courtyard to play games and get physical exercise, proper security and family visiting hours. Even though some people have been left there for years by their selfish family members and never come to see them while just paying for their monthly fees. The chinese usually are conscious about the mental disease now, if they find some abnormality they usually bring him/her to the doc and get his diagnosis but unfortunately there are a few who just refuse to spend money on their sick relative or family member and discard them completely.
