Q: what is it with smoking at a kindergarten?

I know this topic has been talked about before, but what gets me is that some of the staff at the kindergarten smoke at the kindergarten.

on the 1st floor it smells like an ash tray.I cant do any thing about as I have tried before,it doesnt matter how many no smoking signs are put up people just ignore them. the people that smoke here just dont seem to give a shit about the children. This is meant to be a place for education its not a bar.

no bloody common sense.

Selfishness.

Isn't that the answer for most things here?

It's part stupidity, part thoughtlessness and part selfishness.

You need to understand the culture, the smokers have probably never been told directly at least verbally to stop doing it as Chinese people are terrified that someone will lose face and could erupt, and they are also told not to 'because it's bad' and just no smoking signs are put up, but sensible reasons, such  as you are damaging the lungs of children and their environment are never verbalized. So this, I believe mostly thoughtlessness carries on and on. Maybe a job of a foreigner is to say politely what the massive majority of locals are thinking, but too afraid to say.

BTW I'm NOT talking about punching people or screaming at people. Just ask or  suggest in a polite way. If that doesn't work, then it's time to up the game.

Every day 4000 people die from pollution in China.

That being said, there are probably many reasons. Further than selfishness, I would add, lack of education, lack of manners, and probably something to do with the "face" concept... but that is of course just a manifestation of lack of manners and education.

i think the biggest thing is the lack of education and public attention.

It's baffling when I see mid-aged people say they want to cut down on sodium and fats, then proceed to eat fatty pork with thick layers of oil floating on top that are very very salty, or vegetable stir-fried in a LOT of oil. I don't know if it is because the message isn't getting through, or the connection between the message and the result isn't clear enough??

With smoking I think the problem of second hand smoke hasn't been addressed directly much by public educators either... people don't realize the damage it is doing to their kids or else those feisty moms would def be causing trouble.

Frankly speaking, other than the general "thinking of anyone but myself", is the general "actions have consequences". There is very little thinking beyond the immediate here and now (and me).

C is for Cigarette

Scientists have demonstrated how the action of putting a cigarette to your lips is as soothing as drinking mommy's milk, or sucking on a pacifier. Franky i'm surprised we don't see these pictures more often; kids will learn addictive behaviours the.easiest of all.

I think, people here don’t really know the ill effects of smoking on kids… today on my way to work, a bike halted right next to me at an intersection… This guy looked like in his early 30s puffing a cig with a very young girl sitting pillion. I wondered if they were related...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
