Q: What is it with young guys and the long fingernail?

Why do young have this long finger nail, usually one or two on the left hand, either or both the pinky or the thumb? I have actually only seen it on non University students, those who cut hair or do whatever it is they do. I don't like it so much because it looks very unhygenic.

It's leftover from when a person needed a way to show he didn't do manual labor. So it shows he doesn't have to work with his hands as much since he can grow it out. Now a days, it's just used to to help dig in all the hard to reach holes in his head.
