Back home, most women who become prostitutes are thought to have come from broken homes, likely sexually abused as kids, or drug addicts kind of thing. Except for high-class call girls.
Here in China, most prostitutes I've seen appear to not be junkies or anything, and they are always in massage parlours.
What kind of woman in China typically becomes a prostitute?
I heard they from the countryside.... some are even married... but this is here say
Any woman can here... From any walk of life.. the only common factor seems to be easy money... God bless them... Each and every one! They may well be the only honest people in the middle kingdom!!
It depends on which kind of prostitute she is. There are different tiers of prostitutes:
baoernai (second wife)
baopo (women who go with rich clients at special events)
santing (the girls in karaoke who dance, drink, let themselves be fondled by clients, etc...)
doorbell ladies (call you up in your hotel room)
falangmei (the beauty parlor ones you're referring to)
jienu (street girls)
xiagongpeng (women who sell sex to the labor force in the rural areas of the country)
As you can imagine, the higher up you go, the better the family she comes from. Girls like Guo Meimei (baoernai) have actually very decent upbringings and, while already living in comfort and wealth, don't want to have to go through the horrible pains of working.
There isn‘t a real reason for becoming a prostitute. Like what PtotheB said, like Guo Meimei.
This is well known that most people become prostitutes because they have a low education. Why else would they pick a job that requires little education? That's actually how it is in most parts of the world also the environment they grew up in and the crowd they hung out with also can influence their behaviours.

you ever meet a high end whore they will talk you under the table.

No, they will do something ELSE under the table. For a price...
I would say any mistress is a prostitute and any woman or man who is looking for financial gain from either being with or marrying a man or woman also. In China, paying the mother and father for marrying their daughter is common and is what I call a serious form of prostitution. So I would say they come from all ranks of life
To me, Chinese prostitutes come from all kinds of different lives and families. In general, I would guess many are countryside girls, who are sick of farm life and do want a better life. They arrive in any city and start looking for any type of work, but the only thing theu can manage to find is either a store clerk or a factory job, or haouse maid. And salaries are pitful, working as much as 70 hours per week, 7 days, for sometimes less than 800 Rmb per month if getting room and board too.
Then, they soon find out what am KTV girl, or a massage parlor lady makes in one day of work, and sometimes it is more than what they can hope to earn for a week of hard work. And for them, the choice is easy, take it and do it for a few months or years so money can be sent home to help the rest of the family, and also allow her some savings so she can eventually return home with savings to insure finding a husband. All have the hope that no one from their village or family will ever get a chance to know what she really did or where she was working.
At least that is the type of story (or excuse) most frequently heard from the ones I know.
