Q: What kind of seasonings do people use to cook?

I'm not talking about spices. What I mean is all those mysterious bags they use, like chicken flavoring. On average, how many does you or someone you know use per dish? Is there a special type that's really good?

I use the one (chicken flavor) made by Knor here in China.  Depending on what I am cooking will be the quantity I use, from a little sprinkle to a couple of tablespoons if beginning a hot pot.  I only use the chicken flavor, for beef I boil bones in water.

But since directions are in Chinese, I use amounts by trial and error, if too much use less next time, or viceversa

I use salt and pepper. I want to make Chilli, so I bought chilli powder, which is not correct, it should be cayenne pepper and cumin, but isn't , had to buy cumin, which doesn't taste right either.  mixed chilli powdwer and cumin is close to correct for our chilli powder.

TedDBayer:

i have almost made chilli, the seasoning is OK, .,, simmer on dudes
edit; I learned about cooking beans today for chilli, soak and cook beans fully, I soaked and cooked them in tomatoe sauce, the acid in tomatoes stops the beans from cooking fully and getting soft, so the beans are kinda firm. The chilli is edible and beer goes good with it.  I have ammo for the bus ride now.
