Q: What 'laowai fashion' brings all the Chinese to the yard?
Chinese guys don't exactly have the best fashion sense here, so speaking as a guy, it's sometimes quite easy to stand out by dressing the way I normally do.
Have you found that certain clothing items get you lots of stares? Do people compliment you for the way you dress (either thinly veiled criticism or genuine admiration)?
The Laowai fashion I know of that brings all the Chinese to the yard is the bling bling diamonds and gold. They love sparkly things that definitely would bring them to the yard.. Also the other fashion that would bring them to the yard is name brand clothing such as CK Calvin Klein. Haven't seen a CK store here yet that would also definitely bring them to the yard....
Honestly I get stared at no matter what I wear, but I seem to get more compliments when I wear a dress or wear something "pretty" like a skirt.
People usually just stare at my shoes. "Wow, so big feet!". Just a normal size 11......
Wear a red t-shirt and you automatically become more handsome.
Wear a green hat and you're going to get some extra extra stares.
Just wear what you like and play with your iPhone.
