Wow, I can't match Rob or Sino! I've lived in Guangzhou 6 years now. I get back to the UK about once every 1.5 years. GZ is now home. Do I miss the UK? No! I miss family and close friends sometimes but can chat on the phone and keep up using Facebook.

Getting anywhere outside China can refresh you! I get out at least 2-3 times a year. Thailand, Bali (one of my favourite chill out places), Vietnam, etc. At spring festival I normally do a big holiday with my Chinese wife. This year was England, Wales & Italy. Next February will be Amsterdam & Andalucia in Spain.

Wow! Does it get annoying when locals treat you like an outsider and keep asking how long you've been here and when you're leaving?

It gets annoying when I've been teaching for 17 years in China, all over China, and a Chinese colleague who's never left their hometown and graduated from university only two years ago tells me, "In China..."

Without going back home 2 years.

Without exiting at all (travel) 9 months.

I would turn insane if it wasn't for these.

Good solution!Traveling to other places is helpful!

33 months w/o leaving the country.  I was going stir crazy at that point.  Good on Sino and RR-that takes some intestinal fortitude.

I stayed 14 months at the very longest without going home. I took regular sanity breaks in countries surrounding China all the time, though.
