I believe they are tolerated in exchange for their money. Watch how many friends they have when their economy collapses.

Could you give an example of how the world is obsessed with China?

victorale:

look how the countries reacting when shanghai market collapse or take a look how many papers about China in the most important journals are published every day, take a look at the most popular think tanks and Universities journals, take a look at the budget of U.S, and take a look at the news.

Fek me!  The only people obsessed with China are the Chinese.  The rest of the world couldn't give a rats arse about it.  Or they hate it.  Or they hate themselves for having to do the biz with it.

As my old Filipino mate used to shout to the neighbourhood when he was staggering home from a night on the piss about 3 in the morning......"Fuck China!"

It was funny and annoying at the same time.  Of course being woken up at 3 was a little annoying.  But hearing him carrying on was funny because most of the time you wouldn't get a peep out of him.  Only the truth serum could disclose what he truly thought.

God, I sure hope they fail.  If this country eventually manages to become a proper world power it will be a sad day for humanity.

Victorale, obsessed isn't the word I'd use but yes, China is definitely in the media a lot.

What happens to the Chinese economy affects a lot of people, and big business around the world so there are a lot of people interested in what is happening.
The same way the middle east situation affects oil prices and therefore most of the world.
China is a major economy, if China suffers, so does everyone else. And vice versa.

Decisions involving a lot of money are made based on what people see happening, or not happening here. Obviously, people are going to want to know as much as they can, hence all the media attention.

I'd say curious about China. Not obsessed. If any do decide to come here to "check it out", even the curiosity fades fast, and is replaced with __________.___________, and __________. (feel free to fill in the blanks).
