Where is the best place in China to live?
10 years 52 weeks ago in Health & Safety - China
i would say shenzhen as far as city goes. but maybe xiamen is truly the best
Xiamen's awesome. The downtown (Xiamen island) is often crowded and full of tourists though...I live in Jimei, its connected with the island by 2 bridges...I live next to work and a small mountain...Not much to do but air is clean and I don't have to run into people every minute, if I walk on the street...Takes hour and a half by bus to downtown though, which sucks. I plan to stay here long, so I'll buy a car some time this year. If I have to move I'd probably go to a smaller city in Guangdong...like Zhuhai.
Scandinavian:
I can vote for Zhuhai. It has the added luxury of being able to easily go to Macau or Hong Kong for getting away from the car horns and the spitting. Amazing what a few steps through a fence can do.
I hear from various sources that Xiamen/Suzhou/Hangzhou top these lists.
Isn't it Shanghai, Beijing or other bigger cities? Anyway, I live in a very small town, almost an underworld town, but in the way I discover the people here, I start to enjoy it. Definitely it has a lot to do with my work, the kids I teach, their parents and the happiness to teach them.
I also live in a very small town
A lot of the locals now know me, and this is home for my time in china, and so i would say here is the most livable for me.
Can't speak for the rest of China but i've lived (as in stayed for a period of three months or more) in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Liuzhou, Guilin, Nanning, Beihai and Yangshuo (not a city but i'll chuck it in anyway) and of these I found I liked Guilin the most. Beautiful sights, great and easy getaways. Great place.
Out of Beijing, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Shaowu, Guilin, Zhongshan and Urumuqi...I'd say that Shaowu was the most livable small city and had the greatest people. Zhongshan, depending on which district you live in) was the best city overall for transportation, friendliness, cost of living, etc.
There's a big difference between being young and old, single or married, loner or socialite, paycheck-to-paycheck or independently wealthy when you consider a livable city.
I 'very loved' Beijing when I was single and had an outstanding salary. Now I'm married with kids and would not consider a move back there regardless of the salary. Same with Guangzhou. As an older, married type with kids, I absolutely hate Guilin and am looking for an escape from this village. To each his own.
The place that is furthest away from you and the likes!

Shenzhen is the most livable city among the ones i have been to so far.
I find Hefei to be a very liveable city. It's a very central location and very convenient for travel and it's also much more affordable than Shanghai, but only a few hours away on the train. There's also a lot of nice parks here. Many might find it dull though.
