Q: What is one reason China is NOT a communist state?
Ok I'll start...
Sick old lady goes to hospital...they say "you are sick and we can help you live but you need to pay us 20K first. Old lady says she doesn't have the money...hospital says have a nice day...good luck."
Unless you have money here you are left to die. Sound like communism? I think not.
You can pay to get on your train before anyone else at the train station.

Communism does seem attract this type of corruption in the same way that shit attracts flies.
The reason China is NOT communist? For me it's because they realised that communism doesn't work so abandoned the idea, but to maintain power the 'Communist' party kept the name.
Just because something has a name does not necessarily mean that is what it is. (Just go to Europe and buy some Beef Lasagne, neh?)
Communism with Chinese characteristics is the same as capitalism with Chinese characteristics. The system has developed into a way for the ruling class to exploit the rest of the population. Skimming the fat of the land to live in comfort.
Look at the old Soviet block, Cuba, North Korea, you will see this is a shared thing with other (and past) communist countries. All systems designed to provide for the lucky few, and nowhere near the idealistic thoughts of true socialism.
Mr Rection has a very valid point. In China there is no connection between the label on the box and the contents. Look at the Lexus replicas, the "Italian" clothes brands, all the oyster sauce brands with "China Well Known Brand" written on them.
According to retiring NPC chairman Wu Bangguo this week, "China is a socialist country with people’s democratic dictatorship." (That was translated for me by a colleague in Hong Kong from Chinese media). Not sure if it even makes any sense.
