Q: What percentage of Chinese actually support these anti-Japanese demonstrations?
Are there any pseudo-legitimate statistics on this? Any ballpark figures by Economist, Guardian, NY Times?
Certain media outlets make it seem like the entire country's "out of control" right now, but everything in my neck of the woods seems pretty much the same (aside from a Chinese flag I spotted hanging outside a nearby Yoshinoya restaurant).
Anything crazy happening in your cities?
Most of them support it
just that the majority don't know what they are supporting or where the islands are located![]()

Totally agree, I've asked some chinese people and they don't know what is the historic reason why they should belong China or what is govt trying to get back.
I think the vast majority 'support' it, however, I'm not sure how many of them genuinely understand all the issues. My family got quite upset when I pointed out to them that they 'may' be being manipulated by the constant media exposure, when I then pointed out that the 3 hour coverage on the TV news was actually about 10 minutes of VT looped they basically called me a liar or rather said 'you don't understand'!
Nanning is quiet, we had a small demo on Saturday (200 people marching down Minzu Dadao), but that was it, or at least that was all I've heard of.
Most support it. But the word going around now is that some factions of the CCP were busing in crazy fanatics to protests around the country to start trouble.
They're all stupid. Diaoyu never belonged to China. Instead it belonged to the Kingdom of Ryukyu which was a vassal state of Ming China until it was conquered and annexed by Japan in the late 1800's.

damn you and your facts. their are chinese. we feel it in our harts.
derek:
Really?? rich..are you serious? You feel it in your "hart"?
Childish response (If you are serious)
Ok, lol
rich45:
no. i wansnt, but the sad thing is this what mots chinese think.
Come on, how often do the Chinese have the chance to publicly vent and complain about anything? They are blowing off a lot of steam, anger, and frustration. Imagine if they did the same thing to protest housing prices in Beijing or the right to vote for their leaders!
I always liked that George Orwell book.... thought it would make a great movie too. but its not cool in real life
