The question by Mr Scottsalan got me thinking.........
What do you consider the proper etiquette for the following wechat situations:
1. Adding random people
2. Blacklisting random people/others
3. Promptness in replying
4. Moments posts
5. Blocking your moments/their moments
6. Group participation
7. Leaving groups
Any others I didn't consider??
1) I'll add random people if I've chatted with them somewhere (bar, coffee shop, etc) if I think I'll keep in contact. Though if we then don't communicate I'll delete some time later when I have the occasional clear out.
2) If I get random friend requests from people I don't know I'll block them. There doesn't seem to be an option just to reject the request.
3) Promptness in replying is a difficult one both ways. I'll reply as soon as I get time.....but if I'm driving, in a meeting, etc then that could be quite sometime later. So I try to be patient when I'm waiting for a reply as the other person could be busy.
4) Not sure what you're asking about moments posts. I rarely post food but if I've had a day out then I'll post photos of places I've been.
5) I've not blocked anyone yet from seeing my moments but I have blocked others. You know the ones....9/10 posts are selling stuff.
6) only participate in a couple of small groups. It's general chit chat and venting.
7) is there an etiquette for leaving groups? I've been in a couple that bored me so left very quickly. I think I may have been in that joke group in your city but left quite quick.

I think it depends how one wants to make use of Wechat. I use it as space to communicate with selected/known contacts and follow own etiquettes:
1.Adding random people (never add/share with ‘all and sundry’)
2. Blacklisting random people/others (did not arise till date, will do it if situation warrants)
3. Promptness in replying (yes sure, whereever possible)
4. Moments posts (repost nice one’s, compliment/appreciate the poster, save few as favourites).
5. Blocking your moments/their moments (yes, if it doesn’t relate with the contact.. do both.. btw, dislike food posts, they hold reverse effect, ie remove hunger!).
6. Group participation (somehow, no interest in it)
7. Leaving groups (n/a)
I have my own etiquette: 'no Wechat & no Group (sex)'.
1. Random people adding me.
2. "Do I know you?"
3. "No, I want to be friend".
4. Chabuduo.
I don't follow any etiquette with we chat, but I do find myself using it instead of phoning, texting or emailing people. Even at work for contacting suppliers. Many of my UK colleagues are using it now for the convenience.
It's great for simple things such as organising group meals.
