Q: What is the purpose of the small pillows spread around people's apartments?
I've been to a couple Chinese family's houses and apartments and noticed in many of them small pillows spread around everywhere. They weren't there for comfort (some were put up on shelves or hanging) and they weren't perfumed or anything.
Anyone else seen these?

It's preparing for future comfort. There is no concept of just going out to enjoy a drink; it is going out to drink ya beyond one's ability in the name of "respect" or "proving one's manliness." So when he stumbles home, or his buddy is nice enough to help him home, there is no telling on where exactly one will deciede to pass out. Pillows everywhere provide the ease of being able to reach a pillow when he wakes up in the middle of the night with his neck aching.
