Q: What is Quanzhou, Fujian like?

I have been offered a job for next September in a place called Quanzhou. From my research it looks quite cool, but am concerned it may be too mainstream! I prefer my cities off the beaten track. I have lived in Sichuan and am in Chongqing and would like a change, would this place be a good one?

Quanzhou is sort of off the beaten track.

If you really want to go off the beaten track, try somewhere that takes 4+ hours to drive from the main city's exit by train.
