Q: What really makes China a communist country?

As of today.  What if anything in China today would be considered consistent with the premise of communism?

China is as communist as a girl shopping for Coco Channel and Louis Vuitton while wearing a Che Guevara T-Shirt.

GuilinRaf:

I love those t-shirts!

I have yet to meet anyone here in China who actually knows who Che Guevara was.....

Communism is more than simply a defunct economic theory, and Communist countries don't have to adhere strictly to a planned economy. For instance, in 1921 Lenin and Trotsky introduced something called New Economic Policy to the Soviet Union, which allowed for a measure of free enterprise. The policy created a small middle class until Stalin replaced the program with the five year plan in 1928. This put the NEPmen out of business, and many of them were sent into the Gulags. Yet, very few people would claim that the Soviet Union under Lenin was not a Communist country.

What makes China a Communist country is the structure of its government. They practice what's called Democratic Centralism which means that votes are cast by a small number of Communist party members within the Politburo, which sets policy, and within the party congress, which approves (although some might say rubbers stamps) the policies put forward by the central committee within the Politburo.  Communism then isn't so much an alternative to capitalism as it is an alternative to federal or parliamentary democracy.

When people are not allowed to do things they like and when the Government can take

anything they want from the person, no rights for women that are beaten by their husbands, and where women are treated terrible, where people are told what to do and not allowed to do what they want.  Also where any one in the Government takes money and is really nver hurt for it.  Where copies of everything are made and their are not rights such as copy writes just look at the markets in Shanghai and Beijing they copy of everything where are the police , DVD you can buy anywhere again where are the police

I could go on and on this is just a little , Why is it China is only country that you cannot gets visas easy to other countries ask that question

The practice of single-party rule makes Chinese Communist Party the sole and legitimate agent to run the state.

@Kaiwen...First, what is the big deal about the copy and paste thing?,
second what makes you an expert on English language?
Third, the question in the OP was, and here are the key words: "considered" "consistent"  "communism" one party rule is consistent.
One party running the state, is both consistent and considered.
Does the Communist word appears in the Chinese Communist country?
Yes, so it is also consistent.
Finally even if someone doesn't posses
impeccable command of any language, one appreciate the effort that one make to say anything...
You (especially) freaking Americans and Brits think that everybody must speak English ..it is expected...hell, when you come to my birth country and will be in need of directions to the nearest hospital and ask me the question in English, I will say drop dead. "English Free Zone"

I meet losers like you, face to face, telling me "you f***g foreigner go back to where you came from"...What an American hospitality.
I never asked to go there you ask me to go there. plus most of you are clueless about any other lingos...you depended on English because you know nothing else...Arrogant cretin

Its interesting that ciaoAlice answered basically the same as MattSM but everyone got all crazy toward her.  As you can see, her response is exactly the reason. It is just shorter.

One should ask a more specific question if one wants a more specific response. If one asked "What makes America a Democracy?" you would say elections and free speech. However one could also say America is not a Democracy because you only get the choice between two bought-and paid corporate candidates and the freedom to watch corporate media.

We quickly conclude that Communism is impossible because of history. However, Athenian Democracy and later the Roman Republic "failed". Should we conclude that Democracy is doomed to fail?

ciaoAlice:

Hi Tapewater, thanks for understanding the gist of my message. According to the 4 cardinal principles and two cats theory of Deng Xiaoping, socialism has been compromised  to a certain extent, in terms of economic and social developments since the open door policy implemented in 1978. Only the leadership of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) is rigidly upheld. As long as the political power lies in the hands of the CCP, it is still valid to consider China a communist country.

China is elitest, communism is a great idea or theory. But Humans are not really programmed for communism,we always want more,or believe we are better than somebody else so its doomed for failure be it in 1 or 1000 years time

Tapwater:

Humans are not programmed for Democracy either. They always prefer strong leadership over thinking for themselves.

By government only, the protesting and no speech rights may be legal in other countries but as I always say, you may be free to do as you will but there are still severe consequences for these things in the US.

If we look at China's economy, banking and business, it's far away from actual communism

Tapwater:

I would even go farther to say that except that China is poorer, life ain't much different from America.

I tried to get involved in politics in America. I couldn't get anything done and nobody listened to me. So from my perspective, it is the same.

Using ideology of capitalism or communism is totally useless in my opinion. Outside of Europe, there really isn't ideology like that. And we all know that communism according to Marx is not the same as communism in practice. Generally speaking, in politics first you write down high and lofty ideals with your pen, then ignore what you wrote by destroying your opponents in whatever way you can.

China does have some issues with governance, although not all their problems can fairly be blamed on government. Those problems that China does have are largely due to local corruption. The national government, however, can't crack down on local corruption because everyone in the national government gets paid off by corrupt officials at the local level. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" they say.

In fact, a lesson to take from America, where money plays such a vital role in politics, is that democratic reforms won't necessarily stop the problem of corruption. In fact, I would say that the best way to fight corruption is to revitalize the ideals of communism, to reinterpret its ideals in light of modern challenges. I could say more, but I'd better stop. I'm not going to interfere in China's internal affairs.
