I couldn't tell you whats popular cause most of my Chinese friends don't watch foreign TV.....at least not new shows cause they don't know they exist.

For me personally, I really like "Homeland" right now. The 2nd season just started.  You'd have to watch it from the first season though and watch every episode to be able to follow the story line.

I also like "Breaking Bad" although I guess that's not really that new.

I haven't watched it yet but I keep seeing ads in American media for a new show called "Revolution".  It looks like it might be good.

All of my roommates and I watch " The big Bang Theory".  We started to watch it last semester, now we still watch it.   I also watch " Mrs Brown's Boys", but I can't follow  what they say. It's difficult to understand the accent. One of the British accents.

Although not a recent show, all of my Chinese friends(as limited as that may be) seem to think that Friends is the greatest foreign t.v. show ever.

What's up with that? crying

AdamE:

Yeah it's huge in China even though it's a classic. I guess it's huge in America too, or at least it use to be.

In Beijing I've even seen a Friends coffee shop using a theme from the tv show lol.

There's a hotel in Yangshuo called Faulty Towers if I remember correctly. They show Faulty Towers all the time in their bar. Now THAT is good taste.

I my last 5 years of stay in China..so far I have not switch ON my Television..I am using my television just to play DVDs...for rest of the thing..internet is OK..

AdamE:

Agreed.  I don't even have a TV in my apartment now.  I just use the internet for anything I want to watch.

I went back to my home country recently though, it was a bit of a culture shock seeing all the commercials I've missed out on.  Kinda weird when I would laugh at a commercial and no one else would cause they've already seen it 1,000 times.

You know what I've done, plugged a desk top computer into my TV. Great for watching TV shows and playing games. That way I can just use my laptop for work without clogging up my hard drive with hundreds of TV shows and psx games.

Off topic here but does anyone ever stream tv/movies from alluc.org? If so, is it safe, seems too good to be true, masses of stuff on there and reasonable quality on the ones I checked this afternoon!

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
