In Chinfa, Kids under 1.2 meter don't need to buy train ticket. And Kids between 1.2 and 1.5 meter can buy half price tickets which don't require any ID card. That's to say, if you want to buy ticket for your kids, you can just carry your own ID card and tell them your kid needs half price ticket.

this iD card system is recently introduced for chinese and if foreigner are going they will show passport... kids as stated above depends upon the height. if they do not have ID card of the state i think they can use the school card to verify his identity with name, father name age and sex i guess.

A baby in hand can get it's ID card now. As soon as the baby get the Birth Certification, the parents can take it to get the ID card

Sometimes foreigners can buy a ticket without using ID. I recently bought a ticket to Beijing from Xi'an with no ID.

I think that's more difficult in the bigger cities though, and once in Shanghai they wouldn't accept my driving license, only my passport.

Chinese get ID card when they turn 18, one valid ID card is allowed to buy one ticket on the same date and in the same train, except for children with accompanying adults.

Latest ID thing for purchasing train tickets is photo ID (passport) and number of your Residence permit, or Visa.

Train ticket has the name of the owner and number of RP written on the bottom L side. Same is written on the online ticket purchases.

I don't believe kids will be allowed to buy train tickets. If someone sees a kid trying to purchase a train ticket and take off somewhere they'd probably think they were a runaway or something...

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
