Q: What IS the safest bottled water in China? Any reliable official lab reports?

Piggybacking on Darkstar1 post about Nongfu water 3 days ago...

Has any official government agency or consumer rights watchdog analyzed bottled water nationwide and released the results of their lab tests for consumers to read?  (I'm thinking, for example, the National Health Association Drinking Water Committee or the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment.)

I'm concerned because both my girlfriend and I drink a lot of water.  She drinks or drank Nongfu.  Now, she wants to switch to another brand.  I drink Laoshan here in Shandong province, but now I'm a little uneasy about it.

Any links to water safety test findings?

Thanks.

bottled water has to meet 80 percent of the government standard for what comes out of the faucet, what choice do we have but to buy quality filters and boil the hell out of it and hope for the best. truly depressing.

How about Watsons water? It's priced between local and imported water. They are a Hong Kong brand too, so they'll probably meet more safety standards.

THe safest one is probably going to cost you more than 3 kuai per bottle. They have that fuji or fiji water that's real expensive. Try that!

To be safe drink beer. Beer has enough alcohol in it to kill anything that will harm you. The standards for water in China are sketchy. Be safe, drink beer. Franck3

I'm pretty sure that Chinese beer has more water in it than the water in the taps!!!

(unless you're referring to imported beers...)

it's still a good tip. drinking beer was how you kept sailors from getting sick by drinking water, back in the day. water in a barrel will go bad after some time, beer will keep for much much longer

First off, thanks for your suggestions, everyone.

Second, after scouring the internet, I discovered that the gov't has produced bottled water safety studies, but keep their findings a secret.  No surprise there.

So, I'll put this puppy to bed and continue to drink Laoshan.  Evian, Watsons, and other boutique waters are not plausible - they would break the bank.  Beer isn't an option, either.  Don't cotton to hangovers very much.  But an interesting tip, nonetheless.

Cheers!

Red Fox perhaps you'd like to continue to drink your own piss. That may be your best option.

I have been looking around this city (Tianjin) and it seems that Watsons water isn't actualy too expensive. A 5L bottle seems to be around ¥15RMB while the small, normal sized bottles are around ¥2.5/¥3RMB. Watsons water is distilled water and distilling removes all heavy metals, bacteria, chlorine, etc. (source: http://www.purelivingchina.com/learning-center/water-quality/). Watsons Water has two types, the green one and the blue one. The green one is pure distilled, while the blue one is "with minerals", so the healthy minerals have been added back in after the distillation process.

It's probably that sparkling distilled water you can find at most high end convenient stores. I   believe they said that water comes from a clean area. They even had a video to show how they get that type of water. It was pretty amazing! (Drunk!

I try not to think about it. I used to drink Nongfu, but my wife told me she didn't trust it and to stop drinking it. 3 months later, the scandal broke.

Right now we're drinking the 可口可乐 (Coca-Cola) company's water. I hope it's safe. No problems thus far... it's also like 7.60 RMB per 12 bottles, so it's pretty cheap. The bottles also seem to be high quality, at least compared to the rest.

Failing that, we also drink C'estbon.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
