Q: What is the selection criteria for banning news sites?

Reuters seems to publish whatever they want, but the Guardian New York times and Al Jazeera are banned... why is that do you think?

1) Write something that interferes in internal Chinese politics...

2) Write something that offends the Chinese "people"....

3) Write something that exposes corruption at high levels in China...

4) ....see 1, 2 & 3 above.....

Shanghaiist, ChinaSmack, BeijingCream are not banned, yet they are very critical of a China "works" and focus mostly on the negative. So no, not all negative things are banned, at least for English speaking websites. That makes it quite mysterious to understand. Hapharzd administration ? Too smart for me ? Is it the same for Chinese speaking media ?

RiriRiri:

The sites you quote aren't really journalistic medias, they're only translations of mainland newsternainment. Yes, they mainly report about the everyday stupidity of Chinese, but after all, they all come from authorized sources, are globally harmless, and limited to the expat community at best, Chinese don't know them.

Now the Guardian makes real journalism, and furthermore made last year quite a commitment by hosting Greenwald and publishing the Snowden leaks. They resisted the US government and exposed their shit, so they sure as hell wouldn't give two shits about the PCC's feelings. Chinese people are likely to know the Guardian, and who knows, maybe train their English by reading it, and they might stumble upon disharmonious news.

Okay, now another thing, the group behind the Guardian started founding last year a handful of free crypto tools and other stuff for smartphones, aimed at protecting freedom on the internet. Everything the dear government stands for, right.

It seems to me there's no rational reasons for the banning, also included the recent TV shows & books.

Just a bunch of 'little emperors' having a drunken lunch and deciding that they dont like that shit. So we will ban it, because we can!

And thay know the populace won't do a damn thing about it..cos we have all the power.

A sorry state of affairs..
