We should start a revolution from our beds:
- No drinking warm or hot water.
- No drinking warm beer.
- Make all drivers stop at red lights.
- Enforce mandatory death sentences on anyone who spits in public.
- Ban calculators or other devices when completing simple calculations.
- Remove the word "hello" from the English language.
- Apply 100,000 yuan fines for not standing in orderly queues.
Figure out how to build a life in a livable country with breathable air, food that won't make you sick, people who treat strangers with basic courtesy, drivers who respect human life, people who don't spit everywhere, people who are capable of discussing topics other than houses, cars and money, and an education system that offers more than brainwashing and rote memorization of facts. That's what I'm doing and you probably should too.
yongge:
The problem is to find that country. The entire world is fucked up.
dongbeiren:
I don't disagree.... or at least find the right part of that country, there are parts of America where I wouldn't set foot without a bullet proof vest and a gun, but there are plenty of parts that fit my description and my wife and I plan to settle in one of the better parts.
yongge:
Hope you find a happy new life in a good place.
I am pretty much disillusioned, The best place for me would be far away from people in a country not run by stupid politicians and even more stupid people who got the politicians into power. Dream on
dongbeiren:
Thanks man, I share your contempt for politicians. In general though I'd take a politician who is at least accountable to the people in theory over those who don't even have to pretend to care.

I was thinking more along the lines of practical stuff like figuring out taxes, insurance, helpful apps, efficient ways to pay bills, etc.
Not China bashing.
yongge:
It is funny how you mention efficiency and China in the same post
Hal195:
For example, I've heard that with WeChat Wallet you can pay your electricity and phone bill with a click of a button.
It's funny that you're still contributing China disses when I asked for helpful information.
yongge:
OK, here's a good one - find a sense of humour, you will need it in China
We should ban the term "expat"
We are "migrants"
I am a migrant. I migrated.
Shining_brow:
"migrant" is to mean one has moved permanently.
"Expat" is someone who has generally intended to stay for a short time (even if it is years).
I'm an expat
Since you are worried about taxes, insurance and paying bills, I guess you must have done the very first thing that should have been done ---
1. Register at the nearest police station within 48 hours of your arrival.
If you are staying in hotel, hotel will do it on your behalf. But, if you are staying in an apartment, you have to d it yourself.
2. Helpful apps --- get a paid version of some VPN (if you want to use Google and Facebook), Baidu translate.
3. Bank of China does not open bank accounts for foreigners on business visa.
You need to have a resident permit. But, you can open a bank account in ICBC or any other bank.
You are all set .... !
P.S. Enroll for some Chinese classes.
