Q: What should we do with this turtle?
The wife took pity on a turtle (huge thing the size of a football) yesterday, and bought it with the intention of setting it free, so we took it to the local park and popped it in the lake, only to realize that it was so big it'd be spotted in no time and someone would quickly have hold of it again and put it in a pot. The asking price in the market was 200 yuan but she got them down to 80 with the promise she was going to free it. But now we've got a turtle in the house and a 2 year old trying his damndest to play with the thing and if it gets hold of his finger, animal lover or not i'm gonna punt it off the balcony.
So where's the best place to set it loose? The market bloke said he found it in a forest, but i'd assume a turtle needed water. I can't keep it here, not with a young kid running around, besides which it's beginning to spook my giraffe.
Any suggestions?
Please take the turtle to the Chinese temple which have the lake or near the riverside.

this is good advice. Alternatively if there is a park where fishing is not allowed, e.g. here in town we have a park that is essentially a copy of the Summer Palace and access only for ticket holders and there is lots of water and it's pretty quiet.
If Giraffe's getting spooked, get rid of the giraffe!

No can do, it's like part of the family now; sleeps on our bed and everything. Giraffes sleep standing up of course, so we just made a hole through into the spare room upstairs. Works a treat. Only problem is we've got the in-laws sleeping in there and he stands facing their bed. They say it's unnerving.

see this is where the giraffe story goes from being very credible to being unbelievable. If a giraffes head is sticking through the floor anywhere in China, you know it is going on the dinner table. It fits the criteria for being food. It has 4 legs or two wings.

What ever you do, don't go to any wildlife official. They will advise you to cook and eat it.

We did that,set it in the lake but we decided it was so big someone would spot it and snatch it up in no time. So the next day we took it to the river, but the river bank has no shrubs or trees and it's lined with fisherman, so we took it home. Then we took it to another part of the river, further away from the centre, but that wasn't much better, so now we have to take a bus trip out of town to a place we've been assured is secluded enough to set it free in. This whole holiday has been about this damn stupid turtle. I'm tempted to eat the thing myself and turn it into an ashtray.
