Q: What should you do if you lose your bank card?

Hasn't happened, but I know it will. And I have no clue what I should do if that happens.

Go to the bank, and cancel it. If you have an account with a bank book, you can still withdraw money from the teller using that, while you wait for them to send you a replacement card.

When I lost my Bank of China card, I went in to request a new card, cancel the old one etc. I was told that it would take 2 weeks to get a new one. (This was in a small town and a few years back though, maybe it has got more efficient now.) So I opened a new account, and used my bank book, to transfer the funds across. This got me a new card instantly, but I did then have to go through the hassle of getting my employer to change my bank details.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
