In various parts of the world doctors and surgeons have glorified status in their countries because of the Hippocratic oath
They don't actually follow the Hippocratic oath in China, so this plays nothing to their status. If they actually swear the oath is another thing. As far as I can tell, doctors have, historically, a good reputation as being well educated people, but the modern perception is more based on them earning big bucks (which they actually don't but since kick backs are big, then they do end up with a nice Mercedes)
Healthcare is just another business in China. No rules and no prestige in it, except in some very select spots. You'll already be happy if you can distinguish between advertised charlatans (especially in the rotten field that is cosmetic surgery) and real doctors.
I know a couple of doctors. One of them lives in near squalor with his wife, baby and parents. I hope it's because he's saving his money for the future. I really hope.
I don't think there is a Hippocratic oath in China. The hospitals and doctors are as corrupt as everything else, with money their only priority. The doctors' low salaries mean they encourage, even recommend unnecessary elective surgeries to supplement their income. China is the caesarian capital of the world, it seems.
Mere vessels, to be bullied and shoved by the masses lined up (not actually in a line) in their office/treatment room.
Hospitals here are a joke. I've visited colleagues here and the wards are filthy. And I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw people smoking in the wards!

And pissing on the floor. I've seen that. Not a patient, who might somehow have an excuse, no...just a regular person, visitor, grub....whatever they're called.
Numerous, LOTS, of female Dr.'s on the dating sites......... I been telling my 3 times divorced bro' back home to import one for his old age.
Yes, they have status... but it also depends on what kind of doctor.
They do not have a Hippocratic Oath, and their salaries are low. The hospitals don't really care to present a "caring" image and are totally corporate. They tell their doctors to prescribe medicine or treatment that is not required.
If you want to actually get decent service, (for something semi-serious) you need to provide them with a hong bao "red envelope" or they will assume you are poor and give you far less attention. Many of them see FAR more patients than a doctor in the West would and I think this only increases the indifference towards their patient's well-being.
The education to be a doctor is difficult but far less difficult than the requirements in the West. As a foreigner, we sometimes get special treatment but probably more likely to get cheated (more expensive room, medicine etc.) because they think we have the money.
I am sure most Chinese people swear the Hypocritical Oath (or so it seems).
Their status is pretty terrible, they're overworked, underpaid and live in constant fear of attack from disgruntled family members
they don't have an oath here...
its just some ching ping chu
If you go see a doctor for anything relatively serious just bring the red envelope that usually does the trick.
