Q: What times morning/evening are deemed "inappropriate" for loud noise in apartment buildings?
Is there a standard or defined time in the morning and evening when "loud noises" (music, dancing/singing, parties) goes from acceptable to inappropriate in Chinese communities? If I had to guess I'd say 07:00 and 21:00, but I'm not sure.
I was damn near attacked by a disgruntled neighbor at a friend's house a few years back for a dinner party and I've been weary of being "too loud" ever since.
The downstairs apartment is remodeling. They begin at six am every day, including weekends.

My neighbors are also remodeling now. It is completely ridiculous the amount of noise they can make when working. Also because the buildings are only concrete the sounds travel quite easily into my apartment.
where i live the day starts around 6am its the time some people get up, and the local outdoor bar starts its music around 11 and starts serving food for lunch and they all go to sleep shortly after, music starts again around 3pm and goes on until 4am depending on how long they are playing ma jiang. the music is well annoying its that shity disco music they play in the night clubs
Even if there are designated times "deemed inappropriate" for loud noise..do you think people give a sh*t!?!?
You can complain to the building manager.... They should be able to help you... Especially if the building isnt that new... I am sure there are laws.. If people started doing that at 6, id kill... At my place, people are pretty respectful. After 9 id guess, and seems Sunday is after 10 at the earliest. A few years back, it was bad, so i went to building management, found the owner of the place, gave him a call, he was apologetic and solved it. Became a cool neighbor. Mostly people dont know they are being rude penises, just thoughtless. So try to put the thought in their heads.
In the larger cities, it goes something like this:
major construction work in flats can only be started after 08h00. If it does happen before that time, then please involve the local neighborhood committee or neighborhood association rather than the police. They will cause it to stop for sure. It has been effective in my own building.
Next, 08h00 - 20h00 are considered times for normal living and activities associated with normal living. You need not suffer complaints during this period, regardless of what the neighbors may assert.
That being 20h00 - 22h00 are relative quiet hours and noise should be tuned down during this period.
Finally 22h00 - -06h00 are generally accepted as the ultimate quiet hours and while the police will not intervene usually for noise violations during this period, it is still possible to engage the resources of the Neighborhood Committee to tame down the out of control laowai.
06h00 - 08h00 is a shoulder period.
Additionally, there is a law on the books here in the PRC that home gatherings of more than 25 - 30 persons may require a special permit from the local police box.
Does this include weekends?
i have a neighbour called the police on me for practicing )acoustic) guitar at 4pm
i demonstrated to the police that they could hear me speak whilst playing... Still asked me to stop!
