If you plan on working you need to get a working z visa,by applying for a job before you come China,if your English is on a par with a native speaker you may be able to find a job teaching, but the law is getting stricter all the time and some if not most  provinces only accept certain countries as native speaker, good look anyway

gracezeee:

but i was thinking of getting a tourist visa first and then apply for a job while im there is that possible?

Hi Gracezeee,

If you have had 1 prior Chinese visa, and its still pasted in your passport you can get a 6 month  China visa (L or F) 30 day maximum stay the same day in Hong Kong (show up early and pay the extra fee) See http://www.ctshk.com/english/useful/chinesevisa.htm  I have used them before and they are legitmate. If you are a US or citizen of certain other countries (most EU countries,Britian, AU etc.), you dont even need a Visa to enter HK and stay for a short time. Check out the website for fees, requirements on documentation etc.

I also have  applied in person at the Chinese consulate in the US. If you pay extra and show up early you can get same day or next day service. Visit the consulate website and make sure you have all the needed documentation (passport etc.) to apply. You can download the form and fill it out before you go. Make sure you have the proper photos etc.  Also check the allowed payment methods as sometimes they change.

I have also applied inside China before the old one ran out.

If you are just visiting your BF,not working or conducting business get the L visa. When it is getting to ready to run out, get another one or get an F visa.

I hope this helps.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
