Q: What VPN do you recommend for a Mac user?

Hello all, I'm new here. Assuming there are some Mac users here, what VPN do you use/recommend in China? It seems that almost all sites are blocked here, even the ones which seem relatively harmless. Thank goodness that this forum is not!

p.s. Unless I am missing something, the search feature on this site seems pretty redundant as the search results don't have links to the respective posts. It just list the results.

I recommend not using Mac since nearly nothing is compatible with it.

XiaoHei1234:

Well, I use both but it is generally difficult to carry a high configuration Windows CPU around town when travelling. That is why I prefer to travel with a Mac mini.

From the response, I conclude most of the people here are non-techy windows laptop users.

Psst! Psst! It is pretty clear that you are fresh off the boat.

One may suggest that if you, say, hypothetically, lived in a country where there was some internet censorship and paranoia that asking questions in a public forum about vpns isn't the most tech savvy move. Name and shame and all that stuff like what happened a couple of months ago when basically all the well know products were blocked for sometime. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

XiaoHei1234:

Well, I'm sure knowing what vpns exist and blocking them all wouldn't be a big deal for the censors here. I'm asking for personal recommendations as there are like a hundred or more options and trying them all would be very time consuming. By the way I live in a country which has censorship as well, but we get around it by asking about stuff on public forums. It's a cat and mouse race with the censors with them blocking and we coming up with new options. No sude wins forever we get by on a day to day basis. So, any recommendations?

Yes, yes LittleBlack1234 thank you for enlightening us with your profound knowledge of the nuances of the local firewall policy. When did you get off the boat? Last weekend? In that case consider me schooled.

Regardless of what you did or do in your own censored country, it is irrelevant in this country. Getting around censorship by using public forums is a ridiculous statement. You are a tech moron if you believe that people aren't identified in real time and tracked in this neck of the woods.

I just want to send a shout out to all our FOB buddies who keep spreading the names of vpns. Good on ya dickheads

Why oh why do dumb fucks continue to give out the names of vpns when it is 100% clear that the government is looking to block vpns.

Stiggs:

I completely agree with you, although I do think that by now they know about all the good VPNs.  Every ESL forum I read has had this discussion multiple times and someone always blurts out the VPN they use and swear by.

It still annoys me when I see it though.

Of course they are well known to the powers that be. As long as people don't start shoving the fact they are using them in The Powers face they ignore it. Start writing blogs and chatting about them gets attention, hence the recent issues for every man and his dog.

@iWolf. .. That's actually a really good point, I never thought of that.

Dammit, now I'll be even more pissed off when I see someone throw it out there !

China is a free and open country. No need for NVP's here. Don't even know why you ask these silly questions. You must be a foreigner or WuMao.

A VPN  is not something that depends on the operating system you use. A VPN is an access to a computer outside of the Great Firewall, it's not a software that you install... Several VPN providers only requires a web navigator !
