Q: What was the best and worst paying job you've had in China?

My worst was teaching...16,000yuan per month

My best is IT security consultant... 38,000 yuan per month

Why do teachers even bother any more?  I did it only for six months to get my foot in the door, but I see people teaching here for years for such crap money and all that abuse and unpaid overtime.  Anyway, what was your best and worst gig?

I would love to get out of teaching.  We put in such strange hours and get so little $. I am studying Chinese now to help me escape the teaching profession.

Poor little kid, come to mama for a hug... Teacher in a public uni., Master level course, I got a PhD => 5000 RMB/months, for 2 years.

Moved to industry doing R&D, way way way better income and much more rewarding work on personal level.

Really? I did IT Sec for 45000MB/mo and now I develop educational programs for 56,000RMB/mo. What's your excuse?

Hulk:

I'm upvoting you for making 56K per month, whether you're lying or not.

You started at 16k RMB? Not bad.

When I first came to China, I worked in a backwater city for 4500 RMB per month (granted this was 8 years ago). But it was a TON of fun...

I steadily rose since then until my dramatic rise when I did my own thing and now make 60 - 80k RMB per month. Depends on the month and the amount of clients/work I get that month. Looking to expand soon and get into real estate in the Philippines.

If I told myself 8 years ago I would be where I am now, I wouldn't believe it. Didn't have a clue when I first got here.

Worst was 11,200 kindergarten after tax and best 26,000 Wallstreet.

If you have a method to make us all IT security workers then lead us master Yoda. If not then thats probably why most of us work for our so called sh*t salaries as teachers, but you know what, it brings more then enough for the family and investment, oh I forgot to add my wifes salary, naa that would be showing off..

Wow you guys make so much money, my first ever teaching job was about 6 years ago in Yunnan and I was making 2500 Rmb per month which I was happy with.
My Mandarin is not great and I don’t think I could do anything else besides teach although I would like to dabble in the marketing/advertising sector but don’t know how to get my foot in the door or if in fact in China it is worth it as I did help my school in marketing/recruiting a few hundred kids but they didn’t pay me extra just said it is part of the job.

I am beginning to think maybe I should go and get qualified in the IT sector and begin making serious money, I mean really some of you take home over 30,000 Rmb a month, what kind of job can help you make so much in the first place? I need to get my thinking hat on.

ironman510:

You can make 30,000 by going to Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen and take a normal Public school teach job at 14,000 to 15,000 and parents will approach you for tutoring jobs, its guaranteed and then tell them you charge 400 per hour or an hour and 30 minutes and require them to have at least 3 kids in each class this vital because the parents can split and divide the 400 into 3. Make 4 class groups to teach during your free time during the week and make sure you teach them twice a week. That'll give you an extra 16,000 a month, so you've reached 31,000 easily.. Just got to be a positive people person.

A:You can still skin into China as a non-English native teacher by holding English Teaching license in your home country.2nd: Your BA degree should be completed in a native English country. Once, you fulfilled these 'parameters', you qualify for an English teaching job in China as a non-native English sneaker with Z - Entry/working visa with Working and Residence permit later on. See the last 'Answers Highlight' ---> there is a web link posted about 'requirements for teaching English language in China as a non-English native passport holder'. https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/guide-teaching-english-china#paragraph-item-63614-target

*English proficiency: Passport from one of seven "native speaker" countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa). If you aren’t a native speaker, you’ll need to be a certified teacher in your home country with proof of your English proficiency (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL). I'd say, Chinese will choose and look especially for a native English speaker at teaching of English Literature job openings. Posted job adverts for English Literature teaching are most likely from International Schools in China. Good luck! -- icnif77
