He would not think much of it, because he would have a stroke in a fit of anger. Or he would think about it in the jail he would be discretely thrown in. I don't see anybody with some significance question the current status-quo, or at least, rock the boat.

As long as he could stuff his fat face and screw peasant girls he would be happy. As long as he is cared for he wouldn't really care about the unwashed masses.

I think if he was in charge he'd be happy with it and if he wasn't he'd be fighting against it.

I think he'd be pleased. He has a celebrated tomb and his picture hangs over Forbidden City, I don't know why. Puyi's picture should be hung there. I think Mao was more interested in Mao than China.

He d be unhappy. Not enough people are dying from starvation or being executed in mass purges. Have you ever heard one person  criticize Mao. I know the most open minded modern thinking chinese girl and she reveres him. I think they do realize what he was underneath it all, but seem to go along with the act of him being a great historical icon. It's so weird.

you do see the difference right

Washing clothes in a fountain in a newly built concrete jungle = not modern

Washing clothes in a Korean made washing machine = brave new world

Since the question has been edited, I will answer the new version too.

I think he'd be right at home. Things haven't really changed. He would sit in a palace with air-cleaners, hooked up to the latest in western medical technology (he'd be pretty old by now right) and enjoy how the people are running around clueless, but somewhat intimidated by the fact that there is a madman who all of a sudden could have an idea that would cause havoc in life as it is known.

Just like old days.

In China there is somewhat changing attitudes with regards to Mr Mao. I know several people, both young and old, from various provinces who now loath the man and all he stood for. The know, believe and understand many of his cold blooded, ruthless, merciless, callous and brutal ways. Today he'd be pulling his hair out, at the foreigner invasion. He'd still be having us all followed, accompanied and NO fraternizing with the locals.
