This doesn't really have anything to do with living in China, although it did happen here.
I'm in the check-out line at the grocery store. The lady in front of me has her shit on the conveyor belt as do I. The divider bar is doing what its supposed to do and separating our food. This moron decided she didn't want to buy a few things that she had picked out so she tried adding them in with my shit instead of explaining to the cashier that she changed her mind.
Anyone ever had this happen to you?
No, never had it happen, but it sounds like a.........'really' big problem. However did you manage?
markferrer:
haha, I know its not a big problem. That's why I posted anonymously. Just wanted to hear some opinions and maybe get a few laughs.
For anyone whose curious, I just stuck the stuff back in her pile and used my busted Chinese to say "Wo bu yao" so she had to make the cashier tuck it behind the counter.
I think this has plenty to do with China, as in "it could only happen in China". Never happened to me but I be pissed off and ask her wtf she was doing.
It has happened to me a couple of times. First time, I too was scratching my head. The second and thrd time it happened, as she put them on my side of the divider, I calmly put them back on her side. Eventually, they got the message.
No anger, no scenes, just calmly put them back on her side and enjoyed their expressions. If they ever say anything, I will just answer "Bu yao" 不要 (I dont want it) like they said above..
Well, yesterday I made thing, that is worst then what She did
There were three lines in the market, I choose shortest one, and was already done with payment, when I realized... that it was the line for old people, and any that need special assist.
I felt bad... unintentionally confirming a myth about laowai, that we want to be treated better then rest of local society.
In this place I want to apologize all - local, and laowais.
I was a Bad Bear, shame on me.
Shining_brow:
No no - that's fine.... all laowais need special assistance in China - our history and culture is much less than 5000 years!
GuilinRaf:
No, you made a mistake.
Now, if you had done so on purpose, then definitely, bad bear, no honey for you!
siyingyuan:
for sure Laowai needs special assistants, especially if you don't speak the language....I guess you can be category under hearing/speaking impairment; if you do speak the language......pretend you don't.
