Q: What is your escape in China?
After one of those days (BCD?)...do you throw on an old movie you love...listen to an old favorite (music)? Go see a a Hollywood movie? Get a Massage?
Do you ravish your woman (ok...men too)...or find some good western food and scarf it like no tomorrow?
Or do you just pull out the scotch (insert any alcohol)?
I think I need a better outlet.
drink and then post on echinacities.
you guys are better than any bar tender and cheaper too![]()
Drinking is my only escape here...........weither at clubs bars or on my lady sofa.............Alcoholism is a big issue right here
I buy expensive bicycles and I cycle about 25 - 50 kms per day. I don't focus on anything except the road and not being hit by one of the locals.
thedude:
This is a story I somewhat believe. What do you ride on?
BTW your thumbs downs are easier to read than a children's book...do you have issues?
philbravery:
ohhh
I liked nevermind
why did you have to spoil that?
What are you the Xmass Grinch or what?
next thing you will tell me that crimo is one of your family as well![]()
Traveler:
I can't for the life of me think why the locals would want to hit you. ![]()
I cuddle with my boyfriend while we watch The Office. Also I try to cook Mexican food with the limited supplies.
diverdude1:
Mexican is my fave food too (guacamole / salsa & chips is probably the best thing ever invented by mankind,,, hehe
)... 'course I'm from South TX, near Mexico.. why do u love Mex the best? I used to live in Shenzhen and we have a super-fancy supermarket there (Ole') where one can purchase certain ingredients useful in replicating a facsimile of Mexican food. I also go down to Manila at least once a year and there are some pretty darn good restaurants there...
:
DiverDude, I love Mexican food cause I was born in Mexico but moved to California when I was very young. Every time I come back to Gz from California, I bring lots of Mexican goodies. I love guacamole too and I would make it more often if avocados didn't cost an arm and a leg here. I do make different Salsas every chance I get, really spicy ones. :) I've driven past Texas on my way to Mexico and its pretty nice.
Go to Metro, it creates the illusion you're back in your country. Holiday Inn coffee shop is good too. I love watching movies, esp. comedies, they make you oblivious of the fact you're in China. I do some Western stuff - decorate the Christmas tree, teach my kids to make BLTs, drink coffee & speak English to my hubby & son regardless of their reaction. This site helps too, you see you're not alone, you meet other foreigners trying to stay in their sane mind while living & working here.
I like to mess up Wikipedia entries about China's achievements, by changing them to say they were actually made by a western country first.
Scandinavian:
This article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_penis_size also has potential
I just try to remind myself I can leave this place anytime I want. Somehow, by feeling sorry for all those stuck here, it makes me feel better.
In summer I play football (soccer), and in winter I go to a gym.
A good beer with my favourite noodles and watch a whole season of south park. Usually would prefer to meet foreigners and drink that night for some in dept communication and understanding.
We just need somebody to talk to really.
A nice massage followed by a wild night a my fav. ktv
I liked to walk and look at the crowds. Coming from a rural, quiet life, I never got tired of this. For BCD I rode my scooter and listened to tunes. My goal was to see how far out of town I could get before my batteries died, claim a mountain and build a grass hut. I always got a phone call to come back before I found my fortress of solitude.
BHGAL:
I always run out of battery when I do this, and I always have some kind Chinese soul allow me to plug in and wait for an hour or 2 relaxing while my wheels are rehabbed.
10 yuan is the most they ever took from the stupid white man.
TedDBayer:
I've gotten 85 kms and still showed full charge, but then it starts to drop, don't know how far it will go. I'd probably do better if I drove slower.
I had a number of ways I would deal with BCDs.
Drinks with friends at a local bar.
Getting lost in a video game.
Running with my running club.
Making PB&J sandwiches.
Going to a dodgy KTV or massage place.
Watching my boys play.
All these things helped chase away the blues. Now that I am back in the US, I kind of miss the crazy. But when it gets to be bad, I just walk into the local Chinese supermarket and I get a quick reminder of the things about China that I hated. And suddenly I don't miss the crazy so much.
you need to see what this guy has to say ... thedude

I'm having fun with this today
thedude:
That was a trip...what is that...your blog?
I love Breaking Bad...but am still working my way through season 3 right now.
BHGAL:
not my blog ...... my son sent it to me.......his way of telling me to leave him alone and get a life......I thought it was good!!!
Biking outside of town, drinking and pool with friends, and when at home, music (currently Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros)
Meeting up with friends, just like dharma86 said we all need someone to talk to who has the same cultural background. I talk and laugh with my wife every day but sometimes you just need that little bit more.
Beer and cigarettes, Chinese brandy, my sax, a movie, a video game or a game of pool and a chat, but most of all my wife and kid, they keep me laughing. Great when they're off to sleep though, 'cause then.....well.....a beer and cigarettes, Chinese brandy, a movie, a video game.................
I watch horror movies and drink pineapple beer with the wife.
