Q: what is your experience about hygiene on the train ?
Recently I was traveling by train from Tianjin to one small city in Hebei... as I notice train compartment was very dirty and toilets were dirty and very smelly....very funny people can use the toilets but why they can't flush all their shits ? I travel a lot.. I feel its very strange...
Let's share about your experience here......
On a 32 hour train ride, I used the bathroom just once. That's how much I didn't want to use it.
It depends which train:
* High-speed train (the Shanghai <=> Hefei line) is usually okay by Chinese standard. The compartment is okay, I don't see melon seed or fruit skin on the floor. In the toilets, males still can't pee straight in the damned hole, it's not often flushed, but it's useable.
* Slow train (in the places without fast train, say, Dungguan <=> Turpan). The toilet floor is covered of piss... The compartment have melon seeds on the floor, skin fruits, various garbage of any kind, with the occasional spit.
It's all about the ticket price and the target consumer for that ticket price.

'Z' Train has always been just fine. I also get good tickets... I mean the First-class compartment or at least the Business Class.
Regular old slow train..... hmmm... Personal hygiene is a rather overlooked matter here in the Land of Sharing. (share expectoration; share conversations; share smoke; share yawning; share chewing...)
I once rode regular old cheap train from Hangzhou to Kunming. :p That can be quite the eye-opener.
