Q: What is your favorite snack-food here in China?

And I mean like "I can go to a conveinience store and by these" snacks.  Not street food or noodles or rice dishes available at 2am...  I mean packaged snack food, like a bag of chips or crisps, etc.

981 has got it right. But as far as specifically Chinese ones, 山脚 anything, but especially the bamboo shoots with the green and white packaging.. Usually they're pretty cheap (2.50), except here in Zhejiang where they're, like, 15 kuai.

Pickled garlic is also pretty good, though I've only seen it for sale in Jiangsu.

There are these tubular potato chip-like things with an extremely happy looking chef on them. He is a happy man because he has good chips. I'm going to the store in a second so I'll tell you their name.

It would have to be those wasabi covered peas you can get in the package. Other than that any kind of mixed nuts or mixed snacks.

Ritz, honey-peanut flavoured crispy rice cakes, those individual cold sausages in red wrapping, ya tudou, and now Doritos! (they finally started making those again).

MrTibbles:

Whoa! Where did you find Doritos? And what flavor?

Mr_spoon:

Almost every 7-11 has them now. Otherwise, it's just luck, some have them, and some aren't man enough to handle them. If you're in Beijing (I don't know if the rest of China has those shops), Jenny Lou's imports big bags of Doritos.

Kraft soda crackers (or Garden) and processed cheese (you know the white kind...not even pretending to be cheddar) in the supermarket, and lay's tube chips or pistachio's in the corner store.

Orion Pies.  (The US equivalent of Moon Pies).  Runner up would be Lays 'Italian Red Meat Flavor" chips.

DaBen:

I just had that flavor of Lay's last week... and all I can say is "Yes"
