Q: What is your favourite thing about China?
So I've been feeling a little depressed about being here lately. Only seeing the bad things. What is your favourite thing about China? I need to here some good things!
Its just a stage, the honeymoon is over, but it will come back. Things just start to bug you. Legs would be the top of my list, but I find people are friendly if you talk to them and they like you. I find it easy to make people like me and I don't seem to meet snotty people. Maybe its the smell of the Maos in my pocket? I live rural at home and I find the city has more energy in its atmosphere and there is always something to watch. For me its just a big circus. I know things like spitting and no personal space, people walking into you can wear on you, but after awhile you will get past this. Just think of the legs and try not to bit your lip too hard.
The food...the cheap beer...and of course the throngs of young Chinese women (at least in Shenzhen) are the few things for me that make the rest bearable.
Find what you like and tune out the rest for your own sanity.
the energy in the cities at night. the various forms of taxies: motorbike, rick-a-shack, etc., the fashion, the men on motorbikes with smokes in their mouths, the ladies, the exceptional service, the group dancing or tai-chi in the parks at night, the extreme friendliness from the people, the markets, the parks and streets seem more inviting than in western countries, new and interesting things to see, cheap massages, immersed in a world with a new language to learn, the extra attention, the parks and scenery, the culture, indie Chinese movies, and more. Keep in mind that since my first time in China, I ahve spent much time back in my home country so I get nice long breaks. What i hate the most is the food, and the air.

Also brother, i like the challenge. Being in China is not easy, but it forms a good character in us when we strive to keep seeing the good, and trying to be a good guest while we are here.

Ya, I'm always trying to be a good guest. Think I'm successful most of the time. Which is why it disappoints me when other foreigners aren't. But you're right, I think we'll all come out the other side as stronger people.
Everything except the lack of respect for human life.
I really miss China.

I used all of my free time to travel all over China. 
But when you get home, and you have nothing to do... uh, well, let's just say that idle hands can be the devil's plaything.

Pogger. You live in a pretty big country. I am sure you haven't seen all of it yet, for example did you ever see the worlds largest thermometer ?

I've seen most of it. It's all meh. In the grand scheme of things, almost everything is the same.

hard to explain,,, but I like that it's kinda lawless... I mean I can pretty much do all the weird things I like to do, which aren't much and are actually pretty mild really, and not have to worry about people or cops bothering me...

I guess there must be good diving somewhere in China,,,,, but I have just never looked into it.... kinda hard to top big mommy Manta Ray off Burma and Whale Shark in Gulf of Mexico... :-p

I sometimes think China is a modern day wild west, any thing goes as long as you can get away with it. There is nothing like having 2 girls on my scooter while drinking beer and running red lights to make me feel really free.

Funnily enough that 'lawless' aspect of China is the thing we all complain about but it's also pretty much exactly the thing I like about it the most.
Yep keep the upper lip stiff. I had an English friend over there and he always stood up for China and the Chinese. Poor lad.
Walking around the park in my pyjamas and being stared at because you're a foreigner NOT because you're wearing PJ's!!
I can afford to raise a family and spend lots of time with them here. Doesn't always work out though, the other day I was holding my kid up over my head and he was sick on my face. That could be described as getting 'too much' of a good thing.
The word load is very light as a teacher and the holidays are very long. Seven weeks last year for winter and six for summer! Bargain!
I can cross the road against the lights, if there are any. I can walk into a massage shop and pretend I didn't know where I was. And most of the things written above. There are more things in China I like than there are that I don't like.
