Q: Whats with all this damn diarrhea?

Thank god for anonymous forums! I asked a question earlier about squat toilets, most answers were not to use them. That jsnt viable for me. I go poo poo min 3 times a day often much poor. I take a regular poop once a month if im lucky. Its bad. Bad enouh wherei was gonna go to the doctor when i went home but as soon as i landed.... my body knew, and it stopped. Not one la du zi the entire 2 weeks i was home. This year i went to taiwan and malaysia and it was the same. Regular poops! But within a day of getting back to china i gotta stay near the toilet again. Its not msg. my wife cooks alot and she knows what msg is, tries to change up my diet for me. as fresh food as we can buy in this place. I dont expect anyone to fess up and say the same hahaha but do you have any "friends" who this happened too? any ideas?

Eat dry toast, and drink (moderate amounts) of black tea, no milk or sugar.

Food wasn't necessary bad, your digestion might react to spices (too hot?) in food.

solid stools when im out of china and never in 4 years solid in china, tried different diets, different foods, gave up, tic, this is china. the good news is your body will get rid of all the bad things in small doses and the rate of colon cancer in china is half the  US, this may change but meat has to be pulverized before serving here.

I've been there brother, explosive diarrhea, the runs (I certainly know why they call them that now.........RUUUUUN!!!!!), you name it. I'm forty-five and I thought I had a few years before the famous adage that in old age you should 'never waste an erection and never trust a fart' would apply to me, but have since found through painful experience that I was wrong.

  Yeh, I shit myself.

It could be the water used for cooking, the water you drink, or the water you brush your teeth with. It could also be due to stress. Put some fibre in your diet...I carry Diatabs in case of emergencies. Hope you figure out what's causing all your troubles...I would hate to think the loo would be your constant companion.

Been here for almost 5 years and I have had on occasion loose stools but not really diahhrea. Your recurring case of the runs could be due to a number of factors including not washing your hands properly with soap. The "cure" for the runs is actually to continue eating; rice, bananas, toasted bread, and tea. This is much better than taking someting to stop up your digestive tract. There is something aavailable here that does work as long as you keep eating. It is a Japanese remedy. Comes in a small bottle with an orange label and the "pills" look like small balls of tar. I am not sure what is in them, but they do work. You might try eating yougurt more frequently too.

If it goes away when you leave China then it would seem to be partly in your mind. You expect to get the runs when you are here and you do. So it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. Try changing you attitudes and beliefs and it may reduce your stress.

Eat more fruit.

Consider if your hand hygiene is OK for China. No hands above the shoulders when you're out, always wash hands when you come home, always wash hands before eating .... "but the places I eat don't have a place to wash hands"..... well then, maybe consider how the employees handle that, or don't handle that.

Everyone always has advice but I am the exact same when in China.

The moment I get off the plane its back to normal again.

Once after a night out with the gf and her friends...by the time we finished KTV and got to the restaurant for a late night meal...the street food from earlier starting making an exit on its own.  I couldn't bear the thought of using the squat toilet in this craphole restaurant so I ran around the corner to the local hotel (nice 4 star...I used to stay there so I know it well).  I made it to the washroom door when it came out...luckily I managed to contain it to my underwear and when all was aid and done...I threw the underwear away and went commando for the rest of the night and no one was the wiser.

I have tried everything and nothing works for me.  5-10 times a day on the crapper is normal.

In fact here is my post 2 years ago about it.

http://answers.echinacities.com/question/what-do-you-need-eat-have-normal-crap-here

jetfire9000:

Your question contained the solution to your problem I think...   You should stray away from eating all street foods whatever the cost.  I'd rather starve for an hour or two than eat that poison.  If you're eating that stuff on a daily basis I'll say that is more than likely the cause of your gastrointestinal issues.....

I was no different my first year here, I ate barbecue all the time, and paid for it.

Actually, most Chinese food gives me the shits. xD  Jiao Zi , Shui Jiao,  any oily rice, any watery noodles.    Plain rice would normally help stop up your gut but there's so much oil in it that that mitigates any benefit you'd get from it being a soluble fiber source.

Plus most restaurants are probably using gutter oil anyway.

Even the milk has been pinpointed as a source of  shit inducing mania.  I avoid all above mentioned no no's, except for the milk.  As a result I have semi liquid shits but I because I cook a lot for myself, I also score enough solids in between.

im not sure if its street food. i know ive been here for years, but i dont really like chinese food unless my wife cooks. i maybe eat street food twice a year, chinese twice a month period and even then its like a hong kong chain and expensive but it could be crap oil i guess. the rest is western chains or lao wai pubs and then home cooking. dude i feel ur pain, i had to unload under an overpass, had no tissues and had to use cash......

I was always fine in China, my BF had the same issues as you - our diets were almost exactly the same with only one exception, I love yoghurt and ate loads of it, he doesn't like it and never touched it. I've been told it's good for your stomach, so maybe that helped me. Or maybe I was just lucky!

Pretty much all Chinese food gives me the shits. I've been here three years, it's always been the same.

MissA, i'll try the yoghurt trick.

MissA:

I hope it works for you, I'll be curious to see if it does. I used to pick up two four-packs of yoghurt a week (they sold surprisingly good stuff at the local supermarket) and eat both of them during that week, usually at breakfast time in lieu of the stuff I would normally eat.

If it works, let us know - and I'll know to feed MrA loads of yoghurt next time we visit Asia. If it doesn't work... erm, good luck.

Yogurt also works for me. My favorite brand has not being in the stores now for the past four days. I make do with other brands but my belly is going crazy because it cannot get the brand it's used to.

Point is: Not every brand works the same for everybody. You have to find the right brand that will work best for you.

Very very few bouts of diarrhea in 5 years of Asia. My diet is maybe not so typical of a Westerner : I never eat meat, and close to no dairy. I feed on rice, lots of varied vegetables, tofu, eggs, mushroom, some fruits. Street food on a regular basis (every breakfast), I just avoid overly oily stuffs and stick to the 'no meat' mantra. Ho, I tend to eat really spicy, not sure if it helps or worsen the problem for those who have it.

When I see how meat is sold (no refrigeration, even in the midst of the summer), I guess it's not much better at the pig/cow/chicken factory-farm.

I thought I was the only one.  I've been trying to figure out why.  I go back to having a normal shit when I get back to Canada but I also get constipation because of the changed diet (more meat, less veggies). I've been in China 6 years. I have been able to time the incidents in order to make sure I am close to a toilet. In this case I prefer a squat toilet.

I always have felling, something will (come back) and bite me.....when squatting.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
