Q: What's with all the guys with coke nails?
Ever seen these? Some cokeheads grow out longer fingernails so they can snort lines of coke on them.
It seems like either a lot of Chinese guys are hitting the coke hard, or are just doing this as some sort of... uh... I don't know. I've seen guys with coke fingers, a coke hand, and even one with coke hands. Maybe some of them even have coke feet? *shudder*
A friend says they do it to be "cool." How is growing out a long, disgusting fingernail, or ten, supposed to be cool? Maybe I can't understand it because I'm a stupid foreigner who doesn't understand 5000 years of history, so could anyone shed some light on this?

I thought those nails were there just so they could pick their noses more easily?
The long nail signifies they don't do manual labour.

Well, you should know in this society "gaining face" is something very relevant & part of every day's life for chinese.
I've seen a lot of guys grow their pinky nail long with the sole purpose of using it to clean their ears.
My wife says they do it so that they can have a tool. I guess that means everything from open up cans to picking up change. I do agree that it is pretty gross, and it doesn't help that the Chinese guys who do that seem to be less clean than average here.
As Nevermind said - it signifies they don't do manual labour... hence, they have money, hence, it's a chick-magnet!
So, basically, it's a status symbol.
Either that, or it's a good way to tell who's responsible for being crap, lazy and incompetent
