Q: What's the best Chinese smart phone to get?

A friend of mine has a xiaomi and it looks pretty decent. They're just so much cheaper than the Iphone/Galaxy etc.

We've had Xaoimi phones in the family for a while now. There has been zero problems with them. The 2S with 32Gb ram is still available at a good price, alternatively the 3 is soon generally available.

For Xiaomi phones, some models exist in different versions, TD or WCDMA, pick WCDMA if you think you will ever need to use the phone outside of China.

It was pretty easy to install Google Play on the phones, so they become actually usable. The MIUI (the version of Android on there) was fast and I have yet to see any Chinglish there (unlike on any other brand of Chinese phone)

What's the difference in price? You had mentioned Xiaomi before, but a big difference for me would be in price difference.

Scandinavian:

The 2S costs 1799, 32GB version), the 3 costs 1999 for 16Gb version or 2499 for 64Gb version.

We've bought from www.xiaomi.com if you find them in shops you are likely to pay more.

There is also the 799RMB Hongmi. I have never seen it, it is probably a decent phone, but looks a little less nice than the other Xiaomi phones, the internal components are cheaper brands, but it might be the right phone for some, my concern would be if the camera is as responsive as it is in the more expensive models.

Xiaomi & Meizu...But for the same price you can get an HTC or even better the Google Nexus 4 or the new Nexus 5 (first badge was sold out on Google Play in 2 hours). My wife has a Nexus 4 and its brilliant indecision

Scandinavian:

Meizu tend to get criticized for the software. Great hardware but not a good experience without equally good software.

You are probably right. The thing is : All the last year models from Samsung, HTC, Nexus etc etc are like 1000-1500 kuai now...That's not expensive...why pay more for a Chinese phone?

I know Xiaomi's specs are good but still...

I think the software in the Xiaomi seems more agile than what Samsung and HTC are doing. (I do fear that Xiaomi will fall into the pit of overloading their phones with features, but so far so good)

OK, good to hear. Yes, I know the hardware specs are amazing but is it properly put together?...I'll probably go for the Nexus 5, if I have to any time soon...

Xiaomi are running on Android, good value for the price. Customer service (if you speak Chinese) looked great too.

My girlfriend has Meizu. She likes it very much. Looks pretty, fast, much more worthy than Iphone.
