A touring foreign team probably.

From what I understand Chinese don't do football well.

Stiggs:

Lol I know, 1.5 billion people... who'd have thought it would be that hard to find a handful of good players.

I read a thing about this once when China was soul searching after being beaten by Iraq or someone in the world cup, don't know if there's any truth in it but it seemed reasonable at the time.

Soccer / football is a rich kid's past time. The only people training are spoiled rich kids because their parents can afford it. The problem with this is that it's just a hobby for them usually, they're already wealthy so they're not motivated to work to be great players and in any case their parents have probably already 'arranged' jobs for them so football is never going to be a career for most kids learning to kick a ball.

Then you have the 'me me me' attitude. These kids just can't play as a team, they're spoiled and selfish, it's all about 'me'.

And there's also the corruption aspect. Just like everything else the best person for the job won't get a look in if some little rich nerd's parents pay for his place on the team, which is apparantly a real thing in Chinese football.

So the real potential talent out there never gets the chance to be trained because they can't afford to get an expensive coach or join a club and there are no parks where you can go and kick a ball around with your friends, and if by some miracle a player with talent comes on the scene he'll probably miss his big chance because he doesn't have the guanxi to get on the team.

Hey, there's still ping pong though...

Guangzhou evergrande have been the most successful and are a reasonable side. They have had success in the Asian champions league. Chinese teams are a little handicapped by the fact that most of the players need to be chinese. I think they are only allowed to field four foreigners at a time. This should be upped to 8. This would improve the Chinese quality of the Chinese players who take the remaking slots, giving the national team a better chance.
