Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: Whats the best Pinyin input program?
I don't really want to ask any Chinese people about this, because Chinese people seem to have a much higher tolerance for pop-ups and malware than I do. I'm looking for a good program so I can write in characters on my computer.
A lack of "bunnies in cute panties" type program mascot would be nice as well.
If you have windows xp or other, there is already an input program included that you just need to install....
GoldenBoy:
And what program is that and is it supported by all versions of xp or just the one with Chinese language support?
Sangoku is right, there should already be the option available on your computer. This is how you set it up:
Go to control panel.
Choose Regional and Language Options.
Choose the Keyboards and Languages tab.
Push the "Change Keyboards..." button.
In the General tab, push the "Add..." button.
Look under Chinese (Simplified, PRC), then Keyboard.
You want to choose the first option, Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin IME.
Hit the "OK" button, and the other "OK" button. You should now be able to type in Chinese.
On your taskbar, there should be a little button that says "EN." You can click that to change it to Chinese. Or, if that is annoying for you, you can go back to the screen where you changed keyboards, and instead of the General tab, hit the Advanced Key Settings tab. There you can change what buttons to push to change it to Chinese.
To type, you turn on the Chinese, put the pinyin, then hit the number of the character you want. I hope this helps.

Wow! How good was that for an answer. Thanks. I didn't even know I could do that.

I've also set up Japanese, Korean, and French Canadian, for those pesky accents when typing a paper for a French course in college. So if you need any help with those, you know who to ask.
