Q: What's the best way to deal with Real Estate agents if they try to screw you over?

The wife is really nervous about going to pick up our deposit. The guy looked at the room, said we'd get it back and told us to come up Monday to pick it up, cause the accountant wasn't in on weekends. She think they're trying to pull some BS. I think they would have already tried to pull it.

But, if so, what's a good course of action. As attractive as it sounds, beating the crap out of him is not an option.

For whatever is worth, in China, by Law, the agent or owner must return the deposit to you within a number of days after you move out if everything was left in good order and clean.  I do not recall the number of days, but they were less than 30.
If on Monday thay come up with another excuse, cover yourself by requesting a letter stating you left the apartment in a clean and orderly way.  If they do give you that, you will get the money.  If not, expect "complications" in getting the money or part of it.

nevermind:

I think I may take a "when in rome appraoch" my father has some serious guangxi in China with very high up officials through his work back home. The mayor of a major city even sent representation to our wedding. So, if it comes to it, I'll see if anything can be done that way. Sending a couple crooked cops to beat it outta him would be nice.

Hmm, wife said they wrote on the contract it was in good repair and we'd get a full deposit back on monday. So, I can see them writing that if they didn't intend on giving it back, we'd just have to produce that in court and they'd lose.
