Q: What's the best website to find a local (under the table) p/t job in China?

Type of job is irrelevant. Just something to make a few extra bucks without too much hassle or stress.

Be careful.  A common scam is for an “agent” to set someone up with an illegal PT job, then when the person shows up for the first time...  SUPRISE VISIT BY THE PSB!   I forget the actual amount, but there’s a reward for turning in illegal workers.

Also, you have no legal protections, so don’t expect any help when they refuse to pay you.

I don't know about websites - wechat groups might be an option nowdays but word of mouth is usually the best way to find an extra gig, people will come to you.I've known people to be offered and sometimes get involved in small acting / modeling jobs, gym classes, swimming lessons, bar work, singing in a band, importing stuff to be sold locally and teaching other foreigners martial arts. Oh, and drug dealing but you should probably stay away from that one.

Teaching private students English is probably your best bet though. They're easy enough to find and once you start word will spread. You could also look at teaching online, it's probably the least likely way to end up on the wrong side of the visa people.

Failing that, just go to other schools or talk to the teachers there if you know them and see if they need anyone part time.

58 dot com is good for that stuff. You can translate the page with google chrome and just choose your city and look for jobs. Under "teaching" there are many but they mostly look for Chinese teachers but you can still contact them and see whats up. Also, people post looking for tutors for all subject including English. Online is also not a bad option, online teaching that is.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
