They both seem to be really good they always have sales, things are reasonable in-expensive/cheap. Although I do believe Walmart gives more free give aways out.
No why? have you taken a part time job with them ? do they pay more than wu mao per post?
Carrefour in Tongzilin in CHengdu pissed all over every other place nI've been in CHina for foreign stuff. BLT at Grand Theatre is also ok.
Metro is disappointing. It's a wholesaler, and does good cold meats and cheese, but otherwise has a lot of crap in there as well as some decent things.
Walmart in Jingtian in Shenzhen might as well be bombed. Their foreign section is abysmal.
city shop
nicholasba:
that being said i usually dont shop there: either lianhua or taobao
Walmarts foreign section is ridiculous.. no cheese, no butter.
Carrefour has a better range of produce.
In Shenyang we have YOOHOO and Ole, both selling mainly imported stuff like French, Swiss and Dutch cheese, coldcuts and Belgian, Swiss and German chocolate. And they sell the most wonderful bread, baked after German or French recipe in their own bakery. I very rarely visit Tesco, too much of a hassle to get in there due to the endless hallway packed with small shops and the travelator bringing you to the 2nd floor where temperature is kept at a mere 30 degrees C. Wallmart and Carrefour are not even part of my experience.

They are great places if you want insects in your dried beans, expired food, falsely labeled meat, pork ribs from diseased pigs sesame oil and squid with cancerous chemicals, topxic oilfish labeled as codfish, price gouging and to encourage their bribery of Chinese official to allow them to expand.
Western hick downvotes incoming.
Why would you shop at those places when you could shop at killer local bazaars?
Carrefour used to have some pretty nice stuff (French products), but now it's pretty much just Chinese stuff for Chinese people. You might as well just go to the local Jingkelong or something like that.
Carrefour was close by and they have Bacardi
TedDBayer:
Please don't answer questions from this op, I nearly had a fit thinking he was back (banned), besides its too old a question.

belle wasn't matty, matty could never manage an intelligent insult. BTW mattys ban was over Dec 13, but don't tell him/her/it !!
1) Distance: Carrefour half closer than walmart
2) Crowd: Carrefour less crowded than walmart
3) Clean: Carrefour is cleaner than walmart (probably indirectly linked with crowd)
4) Chinese food products and price: Similar (in net total, hardly makes any difference)
5) Imported food: Walmart has less choice and expensive (i constantly need tuna fish, german beer, roasted coffee, musli and spaghetti. I will loose much in Walmart.)
6) Milk is expensive at boht Carrefour and walmart, about 1 RMB, so I buy on the street early morning.
7) If i don't want to walk much, and don't need anything imported, closest Chinese Supermarket or local vegetable market is great.
Bottom line: I Choose Carrefour.
I prefer to shop online as going to mall i tend to spend more and end up shopping over budget.
