Q: What's the deal with putting animals in baijiu?

I've drunk baijiu with snakes and centipedes in it and i've drunk it with baby rats in it, but I never really thought about whether that mattered. And why? Because I don't care about snakes, centipedes and rats. But tonight a friend of mine told me he got drunk with some government top-nobs, on an illegal baijiu that had...........wait for it............baby gorillas in it.

I honestly don't think I know whether I can believe it but that is what he said. And it made me wonder, what the hell is the point of putting animals in booze? Does it aid the fermenting process? Because i've drunk some of this shit and it didn't taste or react much differently than any other booze. My guess is it's become another status thing, like cigarettes. A pack for 2 yuan might be the same as one for 100, but the 100 one cost 100, so it's gonna make you look good. It's a show for fools, right? So what about the gorilla and the centipede? Do either of them have any reason to be stuck in a bottle of alcohol? And most of all, what the hell am I talking about? I posted this drunk last night, looked at it just now and it didn't seem like a completed question. Now i'm just waffling.

Would you put a gorilla in a bottle of red wine to drink with your pasta carbonara, and if yes, for God's sake why?

  There. Finished.

A new born gorilla weighs 3-4 pounds.

Anyway. Anything you let soak in alcohol will give off some taste. E.g. if you take an empty bottle, fill it with fresh chilies, then cover the chili with vodka (alcohol percentage must be 40+, 50+ is better), leave this to "mature" for a month or two, then you will have a drink that will teach you how capsicums' effect is made stronger by being dissolved in alcohol.

Now serve it to any people who think they are real men because they've made up a lie about gorilla babies in baiju.

I know my mate well enough to know he's not lying. As for the government brass, I couldn't say. You're probably right.

perhaps there is a misunderstanding of reality. e.g. "Gorilla = Monkey" so they've have a bottle of baiju with a Philippine Tarsier baby in it. You know, just like when you eat dolphin and people call it fish.

I've only ever eaten dolphin once and it was by accident. I bought some fish and chips on the way home from the pub and they gave me an eight foot dolphin in batter, wrapped in wall-paper. I felt guilty as hell, but I finished it.

You should do a taste test. Line all the various animal baijiu you can find and see if you can taste the subtle difference between snakejiu and beejiu (sorry...terrible I know).

Just so you know how weird things can get - there is a bar in Canada which makes a drink called sourtoe - it has a human toe in it. They advertise, asking people if they have lost a toe recently (maybe to frostbite) and would they like to donate it. Bleugh!!!

mArtiAn:

I knew a girl once who worked in a morticians. She told me the guys there had toes, hands, arms, you name it, at their disposal. Apparently they did gags sometimes like standing in a public toilet, and when someone stood next to them they'd drop a human penis into the urinal in front of them. So with that in mind i'd think twice before ordering a penacolada in that bar of yours.

I remember reading about Mexicans having shootouts over a worm in a bottle of Tequila. The Chinese just out do Tequila or else they're trying anything to make baijiu taste better. There is nothing that can make it taste worse. Even my socks and underwear would improve the taste.
