Q: What's the difference between Ghengis Kahn and Japanese?
I'm confused. In my law class we were discussing the topic of a 'have a go hero'. Talking about heroes, someone said , 'my favourite Chinese hero was Ghengis Khan'.
Firstly, wasn't he Mongolian? Is 'khan' a pin yin name? No.
Secondly, didn't he march into China with superior tactics and weaponary and a set of soldiers willing to die for him, and pretty much charge around raping/pillaging/taking apart everyone who didn't bow down?
And yet, he's classed as a hero. But if you read what I put and replace his name with the Japanese in WW2 era, it's the same thing? So, what's the difference? Will the Japanese governer be classed as a hero in 600 years time because he 'showed great strength and looked Asian'?
Can anyone tell me the difference in the Chinese mind set please?
People think Ghengis Khan was cool. People see a lot of old warriors this way. It's not considered the same because WW2 is in the modern era, we expect people to be more civilized. It's no longer ok to conquer someone just because you can.
Not much.
The difference is that the "party" has decided that Gengis was good and Japan was bad, and as such have indoctrinated the people from childhood to believe it, obviously with impressive results.
crimochina:
actually they teach han chinese to hate ghengis khan and mongolians. han chinese are the only ethnic group regarded as chinese.
By pretending he was Chinese, the Chinese can pretend that they ruled over most of Russia, central Asia, a certain special place, and most of the Midle east. Plus they can say that Timurlane was of Chinese descent and throw north India onto that. This way China = largest land based empire in the world.
Of course, Gengis just conquered northern China and a bit of central Asia. It was his descendents who built the huge friggin empire. In reality, north China was an easy target for every small backwoods tribe back then and made for good warm-up practice.
Legally, the Mongolians had four races, with four legal conventions and races being given legal preference in this order:
1) Mongolians
2) Central Asians, Middle Easterners and Russians ("Colour eyes")
3) Chinese (by which they mean Northerners)
4) Southern People (who put up a bigger fight and earned the Mongolians' hatred, so they were classed as being worse than and different from the Chinese. A few other small ethnicities they hated got thrown in here).
first becuase the chinese Deserved it back then. secound Ghengis Kahn was a civilized man of the arts who increased trade and development of the area he only used the raw meat eating savage image to scare his foes, he was great leader to all his people at least for the time.third The Japanese where racist murders willing to die anyway they had to get rid of the lesser races. During the war men threatened the government until they were allowed to be put inside Torpedo’s they were all insane racist. last while the Mongolians just wanted trade routes, and for the Chinese to stop starting tribal wars in their country
People celebrated when alexander the great would conqueror them It all depends on how you beat someone.
you seem to forget when this all took place. ghenghis khan was what he needed to be for the time period. look at the first emporor. during those times a leader needed to be ruthless (it was a negotiation tool) . napoleon , toussaint l'overture, ceasar, shaka zulu the list goes on. you did not win battles and wars by being nice.
kchur is right they claim khan when they want to claim the once great chinese empire. but they teach hans to hate mongolians because they kept invading china and terrorized chinese people. it is quite rare for a han chinese to proclaim him as a chinese hero.
lets not forget khan developed military tactics the world had never seen at that time and are still taught in schools like west point
Hmmm, he was a hero to be honest. The Silk Road was established in 200BC and was once the highlight of trade and business for many countries, around 900AD it went into a state of disuse because of the warring in China among it's many kingdoms. Duing the 1200's when the Mongols left the steppes and began to conquer Asia it actually was the best thing for China at that time. Before this era of Genghis Khan and I hope you remember it was Kublia Khan who eventually conquered all of China, the Dynasty of Han was corrupt well known for murdering tens of thousands of it's own people, destroying the one road that lead to the wealth and trade into China. Genghis Khan did what he had to do in order for the war to end quickly without too much death, yes brutal tatics but he only had to do this a few times before the other kingdoms realized they would not only fall quickly but because of the decadent society and non brother-hood of the kingdoms it wasn't worth the fight. After Genghis Khans death in 1227 AD his grandson took up the fight and created the Yuan Dynasty in 1278AD, duriing this time the silk road was rebuilt and used, great wealth flowed back into China along with trading with the Europeans thanks to Marco Polo and the Silk Road and the one thing that was so great was it ended all war among all the kingdoms in China.
Japan was not just an invader they were sadistic and expermentive bunch whose ambition was to create an Empire to crush all other countries. So much so that Germany didn't want any part of Japan and didn't even consider Japan as part of the Axis. Not to protect Germany for what was done but to compare Genghis Kahn to Japan is a bit much.
And finally what I want everyone to know, I don't care what invading country has came to China, no one has killed more Chinese than the Chinese themselves.
TedDBayer:
Genghis massacred civilian populations and used a battle tactic where civilians were marched n front of the army, both to increase the appearance of size and take the brunt of any assault.
It's because if you can find something, anything that looks vaguely like a map and it's old, and there's a big blob on it someone in or near China then that proves it was once Chinese. Which means it now belongs to China too (forgetting the several hundred years that have passed). This includes Mongolia, Korea, lots of islands, and everywhere else. They're all Chinese and we need to pay tribute to the rightful god-emperors of the world. Since Mongolia is so clearly part of China then it can't of been an invasion when he whooped China's ass - they were all just having a party.
genghis khan kept the engineers and useful people from each conquering territory, gave them power for their loyalty and made them apart of something and split the bounty with them and his men, he slept in a tent and kept a low profile from decadence, he allowed any religion to continue that did not force the belief on others but loyalty to his empire was compulsory, last thing he did was make a real list of laws that everyone rich or poor had to follow, thieves were executed, no matter how much or who you were, laws equal under the sun to all was the words he used.
one the greatest men that walked the earth, the chinese could never deserve to even walk in his shadow, and they still cant enforce laws as well as he did and have the respect and loyalty of the masses.
