Q: What's going on in China?
From my compound in North America, all the China-based website are slow or don't fully load. Bo Xi Lai's wife?
Her trial is this week.

Bo Xi Lai was the 'party leader' in Chongqing and was apparently very popular with his return to 'communist ideals' program (although exactly how communist this was is still open to debate), he was expected to move up to the Politburo in the upcoming power change in China later this year.
A prominent powerful British businessman, Neil Heywood in Chongqing died apparently of alcohol abuse, but his body was cremated before any autopsy could take place, shortly after this Bo's police chief appeared to try and 'defect' (but this was partly covered up).
Then around the same time allegations appeared that Neil Heywood had been murdered and the British government officially asked the Chinese to reopen the investigation.
Then an announcement was made that Bo Xi Lai was 'retiring from all posts' due to stress.
Sometime last week Bo Xi Lai's wife, Gu Kailai (a powerful lawyer in her own right) was formally accused of the murder of Neil Heywood.
Some say this is evidence of behind the scenes moves to get into position for the upcoming leadership changes.

There are also rumors that this incident was 'brought to light' by a party that is contending for the rule of China. This party supposedly is much more friendly with the military and protectionist/isolationist factions. Either way, what happens in China over the next few years should be game changing.
This is only a story because he (she) got caught.
I am absolutely astounded by the sheer ignorance of posters here on this topic. It was front page news in the west for many months.
Why do certain posters claim ignorance when discussing potentially embarrassing incidents for the CCP?

I don't care about wumao's...nor do I believe you are one...just amazed that people don't know about this or wish to acknowlegde it. Knowledge is power...knowledge not indoctrination.

I agree with you. Even saved Al Jazeera and Reuters in my favourites. Just need to start opening them up and reading them now. I'm warming up to it.
Gu Kailai f***** up. She'll either be executed or if she's REALLY LUCKY she'll get life in prison. Roll the dice. * Any bets? Old news. Personally, I think she's a dead woman.
