Q: What's going on with Skype in China?
Hi everyone, looking for some advice on Skype.
I have been using Skype for a few years with no issues at all but for the last few days whenever I make Skype to Skype calls the other person can not hear me at all (very distorted) yet I can hear them perfect and when I call their landline they can seem to hear me fine.
Does anyone have any insight on this as it's driving me mad, I checked my computer, internet system and everything is normal but I rely on Skype to communicate with family and friends back home and hope someone could offer some advice or has something happened to Skype in China that I am not aware of?

I'm not sure, what is the cause for bad Skype performance. It might be your Internet connection, which isn't too good in China. I usually have free Internet connection in China, so it's probably never a good one.
I used Skype in EU last year to talk to others in EU. When I was using it in free wi-fi spot, it was very difficult to use webcam without interruptions, and after that everything was normal at private Internet hook-up.
That's why I'm thinking, Internet connection might be the reason.
No problems for me in Guangzhou using home internet.
I did a video chat for about 1 hour on Friday morning - some issues, but mostly ok. Nothing unusual for Skype.
Which version do you use? The real one, or the Tomtom Chinese version?
I've started using wechat for voice and video calls now to family in the UK. Call quality is more consistent compared to Skype, especially on a phone.

can you do calls to phones with it, or just wechat to wechat?

Unfortunately only wechat to wechat. Use it to chat with my boss and my mother. Though I also found recently that whatsapp voice chat also works quite well.
I don't have an answer.But I have exactly the same problem!
l find that elsewhere in the world Skype works OK. But would agree that it is not as good as previously.
