Q: What's a good hotel to stay at near the airport in Guangzhou?

I over nighted in Gz when I came here, booked a hotel on agoda, but the shuttle bus took me to the sister hotel, what a dive, the doors to empty rooms weren't even closed. They wouldn't take me to my original hotel as they said it was full. I didn't find any entertainment and never slept in my room, just did beer runs across the street. Any hotel suggestions? Not a total dive.

It depends on your budget.  Normally, if I need to stay someplace on the cheap, I stay at a "Hotel 7".  The rooms are big, clean, kind of sparse, but cheap.  There won't be any entertainment hanging around, but if you ask the guy behind the counter, some can be delivered.  (At least that is what I was told.)

I'd say the Hilton Guangzhou Baiyun.   Brand new hotel, but it's a little ways away from the airport.  First time I've stayed in such a nice hotel.  In New York City or Hong Kong, a hotel room like that would cost $550USD a night.  Somehow I got a steal at around $150USD a night with a very nice all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.  Booked from Orbitz.com.. Maybe you can get a great deal to stay there also.

bit late tho, I took a late flight and stayed at the airport for a few hours, found a nice woman to chat with, caught my flight which was hours late leaving, they held my flight from Beijing to Canada and rushed me through security,, funny thats the 4th flight I've had this trip that was late while travelling in China. I missed one flight, but they got me on another quickly.

A:"As one would expect with any regulatory overhaul of China, there was a distinct nationalist flavor to the new rules: among other things, they also ban the teaching of foreign curriculums, tighten scrutiny over the import of textbooks and forbid the hiring of foreign teachers outside of China -- a curb that could have severe consequences for startups like VIPKid that specialize in overseas tutors. The government also ordered local authorities to tighten approvals for companies providing training on extra-curriculum subjects."  Curbing of the no. of Chinese students fancy to study at Western Universities ...i.e. lowering of the education cost overall. It's funny Zero's comparison between Chinese real estate market (bubble) and education cost ... -- icnif77
