Any good Chinese ones? Something that will take memory sticks? forget iPads.
if you could find a haier tablet, then go with it. but get the hk version of android , android is useless without google market. and no matter what any other poster says , there is no way around it.
Hulk:
There's a way around it, but it's really complicated.
Step 1) Download the Google Play APK (you'll have to search for it).
Step 2) Change to a VPN and use a U.S. IP address.
Step 3) Change your current time zone to the U.S.
Step 4) Reboot the phone.
Step 5) Connect to the VPN before opening Google Play
Step 6) Open Google Play and download whatever you want.
Step 7) Wish China wasn't so afraid of Plants vs. Zombies in English.
The 360 Mobile App is actually somewhat good... but a lot of apps are in Chinese. Some are in English. Do NOT let it "update" your English apps that you installed with Google Play; it installs Chinese spyware. Okay, the 360 Mobile App sucks...
I've successfully used Google Play many times here. However, I am tired of constantly needing to change all these crazy settings just to get it working, so I stopped using it as often.

Crimo, if you want an S4 you can save a couple of kuai by getting it in Hong Kong, probably not enough to fund the trip to Hong Kong, but the saving should pay part of a HK trip. You will get the phone with full Google experience and there is a bit of adventure in it.

i'm hoping by my next us trip they release an unlocked version
Crimo has a very valid point in android tables being useless without Google Play. Some manufacturers have their own app market, but in the low cost tablet segment this is not very common. I have, as late as last week installed Google Play on my wifes phone. This is the actual manufacturer that has instructions on an online forum on how to do this. 5 mins and all is well. All Google apps (Gmail, Maps, Translate etc.) works flawlessly. You cannot expect all apps to work though.
When you request info on what tablet to buy, there are some natural questions back
Desired Screensize?
Is 3G needed or can you survive on wifi?
Surfing or gaming ?
Prior to ordering, see if the one you pick has some discussions (positive hopefully) going on. Some of the China tablets have lots of help to be found with recipes on how to make them more usable to non-Chiense speakers.

N70 HD seems pretty decent. Sells for about 550CNY. I have not verified you can install Google Play on it, but on it's little brother N70S you can.
Another thing to be aware of. Sometimes the specs can look better than they are. E.g. a Quad Core processor will always sound impressive, but some of these cheap devices has Cortex A5 based processors. They will always get a beating from Dual Core Cortex A9 processors.

Don't forget memory size, OS, and whether it takes SD or other memory cards!!! That's why iPad sucks!!
I wouldn't buy a Chinese one. Tried some in the shop...the touchscreens are very slow..its annoying..and you never know how long the damned thing is going to last. Bought a Google Nexus 10, its expensive but worth every penny. Front speakers and the best tablet screen on the market, same goes for Nexus 7, which is much cheaper. And of course all Google things work
