Q: What's the lump next to the ears?

So I ride the subway quite often and since I'm not a fervent smartphone user and I don't read papers, I have plenty of time to stare back at Chinese people.

During my hours of staring I noticed that A LOT of Chinese, mostly men, have a weird lump/bulge/swelling near the ear.

Seriously, I'm sure that after a few subway rides you will notice it too.

What the hell is that?

Can I get it?

Please set my mind at ease

Thank you

Sebaceous cyst most probably. You can't get it from others and it's not at all about China or Chinese people.

Edit to add: Thinking about it... since one of the causes could be an excess of testosterone production and since Chinese medicine (at least from what I've heard in here) deals a lot with erection problems by using remedies that increase testosterone... yes, it could be more common in China than in Europe or the USA. But you still can't get it from others.

NuF:

Thx for the reply.

I'm not so much worried about getting it from other persons. The problem is that I too live in China. If they have it, I can get it too.

Anyway, I checked out your proposal and I have no idea. Could be or not.

It actually looks like this: http://www.scielo.org.ar/img/revistas/aap/v104n2/a15fot2.gif

This is a picture of inflamed preauricular lymph nodes.

Still not sure...

Yeh, i've noticed it many times over the years. That is some truly strange shit to me. Absolutely no idea what it is. None at all. Konrad's suggestion that it's a cyst or a......what did you suggest it was......like a head erection? That's just terrible. I mean, i've been called dickhead more than a few times in my life, but that's something else.

It could be many different things, we will just be guessing here.  Anywhere from a cyst to cranial bones not fully developed leaving a small hole for some of the brain matter to pop out a bit.  if many have it at the same place, it would be quite a coincidence that it would be a cyst or similar.  But any assertion will be just a wild guess.

I will be looking out for it from now on, at least my GF does not have it.

Micro chip implants used for ID are very small. They must be scanned to be read. Bigger transmitter ones are powered and broadcast your location. Be very careful where you go if you wake up with a bump on your neck. Riding the subway may help you go undetected. I'm sure that is why you notice so many with tracking devices on the subway.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
