Q: What's the main reason behind people losing their limbs here?

It's unbelievable the amount of people here, especially beggars, I've seen without limbs. Legs, arms, hands.

What's the main reason behind this? Massive smoking, gangrene? Factory-related accidents?

I've seen it back home too, but the sheer number here it baffling.

For beggars, the main reason is that the street gangs that control them hack off the limbs to increase the amount of money they make.

The other reason is that in the west, if something happens to your limb the doctors are most likely going to save your limb first, then figure out how they will get their money from you.

Here in China, it is the other way around.  If you don't have the money to pay up front, you will get nothing.  Or the doctor (if they are feeling charitable) will take the cheapest route possible which is to simply cut off the limb, sew you up and kick you out the door.

You will really never know unless you ask them. Sometimes it could have been an accident where there limb was accidently chopped off.

Some of the survivors of the war had their limbs cut off too. But you really never know which ones they are.

The gangreen or their health could have been affected in such a way that the doctor had no choice but to cut off one of their limbs. Most of the time it would be their foot or leg.

Gangs could have been another reason why they lost a limb since some parts of this world the penalty is to chop off a limb. I'm not sure if they do that in China they may do that in parts of China or use to.

have you seen the traffic? TCM, cheating on a hunan woman, stupidity, drunken shannagans, trying to "afford" a shanghainese woman. (literally it costs an arm and a leg)
