Beijing and Schenzen are very very polluted as far as i can tell. Prolly the most polluted I've seen. I find it worrisome. I wouldn't want my Chinese girlfriend to be pregnant in those towns, because I would be very very afraid for the pregnancy. I don't want my child to have lung problems.

I personally ask Chinese girlfriends to take contraceptive pills. They are most of the time reluctant, but being nice, treating them well and they will take it. They forget some of the time, so now I remind it to them. It's for our future child's sake, we don't want him to have health problem. It legitimate reason, so they agree!

In terms of water pollution, Chongqing actually tops the list. The city's water contains dangerous and even carcinogenic levels of mercury, heavy metals and frightening levels of sulfides, sulfates, chlorides, chlorates, phosphates and chemicals. Beware, next time you drink a cup of hot water in a restaurant!

I heard Chongqing was the most polluted even before I came to China

Linfen in Shanxi province is the most polluted city in China. The city's in the heart of China's coal belt so you can imagine how bad the lungs of locals must look. The World Bank actually declared Linfen the most polluted city in China back in 2010. It remains to be seen whether another city will throw Linfen from its throne this year....

In the meantime, check out this article about the world's most polluted cities. Guess which country is prominently featured on the list?!

Maybe not the most polluted, but I checked the Air Quality Index recently for Beijing, and it was at 170, which is considered very bad air...

In comparison, back in Toronto the AQI was 12!!!

crazy crazy what we're putting up with here in Zhongguo... Puzzled

I heard Lanzhou was pretty dismal, but, like many people have voiced, most of China is a bit too smoggy to bear. Still, we're all here for one reason or another so it can't be that unbearable!

My friend lives in a small city in Hebei. Xingtai. He has an app on his phone that shows pollution levels in a range from 0 to 500. Air quality the other day was '449. Hazardous.'  Anything over 100 on the app is deemed as unhealthy.

According to the government figures (Chinese, not mine, so you know it's bad) Shijiazhuang; my own fair city, was the most polluted in May. Probably this month too.

It's like breathing in sand.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
